Some things about the slog in the bog

Whew, that was ugly. A 'W' is a 'W'.

1) I am absolutely certain that we are going to find out sometime in the near future that Carl Cheffers is a degenerate gambler and shaves points for the mob. Every time we get him, he throws the flags when we're about to boat race somebody and blow the spread. I have zero doubt of this, and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise.

2) Sick Chris Jones = no pass rush. Embarassing, really. You can blame Spags if you want, but it wouldn't matter if you dragged George Halas out of the grave, you're not stopping anybody if you can't pressure with 4.

3) I think you've got to just put Butker on IR and do something else. Like, anything else. You just can't head into the play-offs with a guy blowing it like this. If it's because he's not 100%, or if he's mentally ****ed due to trying to play less than healthy, whatever, but right now, you can't depend on him at all.

4)You can't put the ball on the ground like that. Pacheco is a rookie, and I'm not going to bust his balls too much. But you just can't do that, and he and Juju know that.

5) Mahomes quietly had one of his best games, and our OT's still suck donkey balls. Brown is approaching bottom third LT's in football, and Wylie blows goats.

6) Some of those calls were absolute bullshit-like the illegal contact when the Texans receiver ran into Thornhill and they called the penalty on Thornhill. Embarassingly bad reffing.

7) The lack of pass rush coupled with the youth in the secondary is worthy of great concern. Pair that with shitty offensive tackle play and a tendency to put the ball on the ground has me feeling...not too optimistic. The turnovers can be cleaned up, but we have an ability deficiency at a few really key spots that are going to be hard to overcome.

8) The screen call was not a bad call at the end of regulation; it had been money all day. Not enough time, really, to drop back and throw downfield; as we saw when we tried it in OT. Thuney got smoked on that one, although Brown's man was an instant behind.

9)Texans have been playing over their heads, and The Chiefs are obviously in one of their mentally tired periods in which they just don't look focused. Other than Mahomes, who was stellar today. They better get right, and do it quick.

10) How about that Jerick Mckinnon!? Boy, he's become everything we'd hoped Clyde would be. I don't care what you say, I'd never draft a RB in the first ever again.

BONUS THING-

Houston is nasty, and is my least favorite city in America.

Yet we're 11-3 and won the AFC West in an admitted rebuilding year...

Said it in the other thread but I think it's worth repeating.

We killed them on the stat sheet.

Turnovers and penalties are killing us.

Well, I don't think The Chiefs have admitted that. I tend to agree, though.

And yeah, W/L record is great right now, but there is real cause for concern.

I don't think that's being overly negative to admit.

Game should have never been close but the sky is falling stuff that makes up the game thread is honestly a little dramatic. We held the Texans to 223 yards and 3.8 yards a play which is one of their lowest outputs of the entire season, even less than they got against the vaunted Cowboys defense.

Gotta be worried about Butker but banking on any kicker to hit a 50 yarder for the game is not smart. That's on Reid. You kick 50 yarders when you're out of time and don't have a choice.

We also ended up running for 189 and almost 6 yards a carry.

Nothing went right today but we pulled through for the win. The whole damn game thread is how the entire team sucks except for Mahomes and it's just not true. We dominated this game in every way on the stat sheet except for penalties and turnovers, and that's the difference.

Cheffers corrupt ass aside, this game for me was all about

PASS RUSH

Or the lack thereof, even with Jones not being 100% it was just sickening

On the positive, while he's had gaudier stats... Mahomes was nearly flawless today, one of his best ever from a decision making/execution perspective

yeah. That's a couple in a row, though. They need to get right pretty quick.

I am concerned as far as the play-off potential due to the 1)inability of the front four to pressure consistently, 2)flat lousy OT play, and 3)tendency to turn the ball over.

The third can be remedied. The first two? It's a lot to overcome. We DO have Mahomes, and so it's possible, but it's a tall order.

When the QB completes 88% of his attempts with zero turnovers, it should be a blowout victory against a pretty bad team. This team & coaching staff cannot seem to put everything together for a complete performance in all phases of the game.

Just have to hold on to the ball. Would have destroyed the Texans by just holding on to the ball.

You’d expect it from 15 after his 3 picks last week. Aside from a few misses early, he was fantastic today.

Hey guys, do you think we might need to address the pass rush in the upcoming offseason?

Only saw the plays they showed on Redzone coverage but Pat was MVP level and at least 2 of the flags were diabolical calls against us. McKinnon was class and if he was more durable he would be a clear RB1.

Some excellent points in the OP.

1. Our continuing turnover problem scares the shit out of me. That happens in playoffs, we will be done. The win stats of teams with -1, -2, -3 or more TOs in the playoffs is horrific.

2. Butker is lost. He is not looking injured at all, just in his head and at a bad time. Too dangerous to count on him in the playoffs. We need some 2 point tries and going for it on 4th.

3. Gay has stepped up his game.

4. Our O line has terrible push but great at getting their hands up to block passes.

5. When your D is asked to guard guys for 8-10 seconds because no QB pressure, the chance of a penalty skyrockets.

6. Carl Cheffers is a Chief hater of which I have no doubt. He is brutal and the Chiefs should file a complaint with the league.

7. Mahomes played great

8. Our RBs had a great day until the Pacheco fumble. Terrible.

9. Kelce excellent as always

10. I give JuJu a little leeway on the fumble. The defender picked him up to slam him. Not easy to try and brace yourself and hang onto the ball.

11. We look very poor in many areas heading down the home stretch and into the playoffs. I have no idea how we could go to Buffalo and stop them with this defense.

I think our chances to make it back to the Super Bowl have dropped a lot these last two games.

One of those turnovers should never have been awarded. You can’t challenge a turnover on forward progress calls. We know this all too well.
