He could probably find them through ancestry.com. I found out all kinds of stuff, a lot of which were secrets my parents probably thought no one would ever find out about.

I hope not. Mainly just found out that I had a younger sibling that had been put up for adoption and nobody knew about it(except my Dad and the woman he had an affair with). Also found out my sister that I grew up was actually just my half-sister and that my paternal grandfather was someone else. One thing is for sure, boomers were screwing everything back in the day.

According to them I have distant relatives in Australia and England. I guess it makes sense after my brother did some research and found out our ancestors came from Kent England.

And as such, i never spent much of any time with her side of the family as my dad tried to keep them away (he thought they'd try to take me from him). All -in- all, i spent maybe two days worth of time in my entire life with that side of the family (all as a child of course).

One Sunday morning i walked outside and found notes on my cars. "We're looking for (me), please call (Phone) if you know him".

...after 30-something years...

My aunt found me. Apparently she found me with the help of some Facebook group that helps find missing persons, family etc for free. Pretty neat. Thought i'd share.

Meeting them....it's hard to explain. It's like....having a bunch of questions that you never asked, answered. All of a sudden things about myself made more sense. Quirks that i thought were individually my own....turns out, run in the family. It's crazy. It's like a bunch of blanks got filled in.

My Grandfather was adopted, but we have birth certificate so we had the family name. Did the DNA out to 37 markers, but had no real strong matches within the family name/DNA. Got an email about 6 mo later from someone researching his family tree (another family name), turns out I'm a match to his ancestor. If you trace back several generations, our ancestors were in the same towns in NE and had members of both families married to each other.

Must have been something going on

I'll try to make a long story short. I ended up doing some family tree work a few years ago, pre-Covid. My brothers and I did DNA tests and some of my aunts did as well.

Also, just to add some fun, my mother had never known for sure who her real father was. The man on that side that we called Grandpa growing up had married my mother's mother and ended up adopting my mom as his own. In any case, my mother's aunts and uncles had told her about a particular man that they thought had fathered her. She had some very specific info about him so it wasn't too tough to find out about the man. Turns out we weren't related to him at all; it was fairly easy to figure that out when we did DNA. And due to close matches from Ancestry.com, I was able to actually find her real father. He's dead now but my mother has two living half siblings in Rhode Island. They reached out and contacted me and now we all talk quite a bit. My mother, in particular, has gotten pretty close to her "new" half sister.

For privacy's sake, I'll save the story about my dad's side for another post when I feel like sharing more. It's a ****ing mess. DNA is both a blessing and a curse, let me tell you.
