NY Post: How the Chiefs Turned their Season Around

https://nypost.com/2024/02/07/sports...ss-to-raiders/

Raiders loss was the turning point...

Quote:
“We responded after that loss. I can point back to that as a moment for us,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “The team came together after that and stepped up to adversity.”

The Chiefs’ defense has played well all season. But the offense has picked things up since that Raiders loss.

Though Chiefs players are careful not to get to specific, they did offer up some changes that were made.

Wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling said they tightened up the receiver rotation.

Instead of constantly substituting players, the Chiefs have kept players in the game even if the play call is not specific to them.

“We haven’t really done anything that has schematically changed,” Valdes-Scantling said. “We’re still running a lot of the same plays that we’ve been running all year. It’s more the in and out of personnel. We’ve got a bunch of receivers that can play. If you have seven guys up, everybody wants to play.

“It was just trying to figure out ways to get guys on the field, keep them on the field, not have to go in for a play, out for a play. That’s helped us out.”

The Chiefs have gotten better individual performances, as well.

The offense got moving once Moore and Toney were being phased out.

Coincidence? I think not.

Shit that seemed obvious since the first quarter of the season. WRBC just aint it. They're not RB's.

There's talk of Biennemy returning next year once the season ends...hopefully he'll take over the OC role again.

Yeah, this isn't rocket surgery. You can't have 2 guys in the rotation that continually **** shit up. Tighten the rotation and get in a better rhythm with the guys you can trust to make plays.

Can't blame them for trying a rotation. Rice himself said it was tough to get the playbook down at first, Toney got injured the first day of camp, MVS and Skyy were making fond of costly mistakes and Richie James got hurt.

The loss of Juju was pretty substantial the first half of the season simply bc he was a veteran who knew what to do and where to go without making a ton of mistakes.

I'm as big of a Veach/Andy supporter as any but they made a terrible mistake rolling with Toney and Skyy as our top receivers. It was a huge debacle. Fortunately Rice made up for a lot of that.

If there was ever a good loss, it was that one - the offense scoring 14 points and giving the Raiders 14 points for a net zero on the day. The team really woke up.

Losing to the Raiders is intolerable to anyone and causes you to re-evaluate everything

Hardman was brought back to help with those problems. If that doesn't tell you how bad things were at one point, nothing will.

That, and the loss to Denver was totally inexcusable

Personnel choices this season were some of the worst we've seen. Taking your best receiver off the field on an obvious passing down just never made any sense. Whether that was Nagy, or that was Reid, it was terrible.

It's no surprise performance has improved when you keep the talent on the football field.

Im sure Nagy has made up for not being able to sub in dumbasses ad nauseum by ritualistically smashing his testicles with a meat tenderizer to emulate the feeling.

I'll partially excuse that one due to it being the Mahomes "flu game".

Not sure about that. I think mvs is just frank Clark who shows up in the playoffs. He closed the season in a pretty brutal spot. If he can just hang on for a few targets and convert we are in a great spot going into the super bowl. Not changing my tune that clearly we need to upgrade at WR because what the article isn't saying is that the biggest adjustment was just flat out not targeting WRs not named rice. Which not so coincidentally has led to less turnovers.
