It sounds reasonable that the Chiefs at that time would have traded up to draft Steve Fuller instead staying put and taking Joe Montana. I'm not surprised at all.

Shows just how much luck played in the legacies of Walsh and later Belichek. Good coaches who had HOF QBs fall into their laps. Not much skill in passing over a guy multiple times and then trying to claim you are a genius.

Everyone passed on Montana twice so no one can claim they knew he would be that great.

None of this is true. It was God's will.

Belicheck is singlehandedly the luckiest coach in the history of the NFL.
Without brady, he's a washout like all the others.

Lol at beli being just a lucky coach.. no. It takes both. Greatness magnifies greatness. Bill manages his team like no other.. Walsh invented an offense practically.. different level coaches

He wins nothing without lucking into Brady. Passing over a guy FIVE plus times is the very definition

I hate to say it but I honestly think Joe Montana's career may have paralleled Alex Smith's if he would have been drafted by the Chiefs. The Chiefs simply weren't a team designed to develop QBs at the time. Actually until Andy and Dorsey I don't think they ever have been in my lifetime. There's quiet a few QBs that I think could have been great but were just selected by the wrong team and placed into the wrong environment to develop. Just off the top of my head: Jake Plummer, David Carr, and Cade Mcnown. Actually I think Alex wouldn't been playing with PTSD if he wouldn't have had such instability in coaching early in his career. Let's GO PM2!

I guess you could brag about being even more of a genius and getting the guy cheap, but that's a pretty spurious argument. It's clear that no one knew the guy was as good as he was, or they all would have taken him as quickly as possible. Maybe you thought he could be good, but that's a whole different take on the story.

RGIII would need amazing protection. That guy wasn't built to take hits at an NFL level, I think I have thicker legs than him. Geno was a head case who liked to throw temper tantrums and had a very low ceiling IMHO. No thanks and no regrets on Geno.I thought Kevin Kolb was going to be something special as well so it shows what I know when push comes to shove.
