Thought alot about going D with this pick but instead the Lions are going to add another weapon to the passing attack.
The Detroit Lions select Jermichael Finley TE Texas. |

Eh, that's a fair pick. I think there's at least one remaining TE that would have been more worthy of that selection, but I'm of the opinion that the Lions have badly needed some OLB help, and there seem to be about 10 solid options available for that.

BUT, that opens up a door I guess for the Bengals, who need LB help like I need oxygen.

After you've made your pick it doesn't hurt to pm the next person picking in the draft.
It kind of makes my skin crawl having to pick for the Donkies. Let alone trying to do it with some shred of integrity. Pressley was a player who fills a BIG need for the Donks. Last years draft pick DT Marcus Thomas is still more interested in burning blunts than being a football player. |

Thought about Justice and he would've been the pick but they just signed Casey for 2 years.

I didn't, the Donks did.
I use the latest FA signings and trades by the teams I'm drafting for as part of the process of making picks for them. Donks also traded their former starting C Meyers to the Texans. |

Now, I don't think you're out of line because picking up an uber-vet instead of a promising youngin' does seem to be Shanahan's MO as of late, but I think it'd be smarter to have gone with Justice. A two-year contract is not a vote of confidence. It's a "let's see what you got" type deal. |

Again, I think the Bengals, more than anything, could benefit from picking a LB here. It doesn't really matter what kind of linebacker either, since the only spot they've got they filled with Rivers on the first day of the Draft. So, MLB or SOLB? Depends on who's available.
The reason I say this is because they're a truckload of really solid guys left. I wouldn't go with Darrell Robertson or Bruce Davis because they're more like OLB's in the 3-4 than in the Bengal's 4-3. And I wouldn't go Wesley Woodyard because he's really undersized and the Bengals would prefer someone who could play now rather than having to groom Woodyard to play SS. I do think Marcus Howard's a great pick for them. He needs a little grooming but the payoff will seem to be worth it -- matter of fact, I don't think a lot of people in this mock are aware of Howard's combine numbers. He benched 27 x's, he has a verticle of 36", and he ran a 4.40 (!!!) at 237 lbs. His problem is that he's rough around the edges, and he didn't even really have one great season. He played well in 2007 but he didn't even emerge as a stud until the end of the year; he got better as the season went on. But he's unquestionably got the measureables, and he did eventually stand out on a talented Bulldogs team. He's great in pursuit in any defensive scheme that calls for blitz after blitz after blitz. |

Since 24 hours have passed, I'd like to request to the mods for the Bengals to select OLB Marcus Howard, please.

The Jets have done a good job trying to find WR weapons in this Draft. Avery and Thomas will both help and their run game is going to look very impressive with Jones/McFadden/Washington, but they are still going to struggle on defense. Their LB corps is still completely naked in the middle, and their situation at CB is almost as sad as ours. They could also use another NT to come in for Jenkins, since Jenkins is not an every-down guy.
I obviously think the best pick here is CB Trae Williams, since he's a potential starting CB that's somehow fallen all the way down to the 4th. He's talented enough to have been taken in the 2nd any other year. Vince Hall is also a good candidate for the 3-4 ILB. I think he's a reach here normally, since for all his talent he's still running the 40 in 4.88. But ILBs don't need to be fast, they need to be powerful tacklers and LOS terrors. He's a bit small but he's experienced against great competition and can make some noise if in the right scheme. |

I was debating with myself between Darrell Robertson out Georgia Tech and Trae Williams, cause I think both could upgrade their respective positions at LB (where Robertson would play in the Jets 3-4) and CB.
In the end, I decided that Trae Williams would probably see more action in nickel packages, thus being more of immediate upgrade. He could eventually be an every down player, though I think he is best suited to nickel and dime packages in the NFL. So with the 109th selection in the CP '08 mock draft, the Jets select CB Trae Williams, So. Florida
