Chiefs Unsubstantiated Rumor: It will be Bill Cowher as Head Coach in 2009 - Page 4

OK gang, as you all know, A friend of mine from high school is good friends with a former player of the Chiefs and Steelers... just talked with him on Facebook and he said that 100% that Cowher will be the coach next year. The assistants have been told to find other employment and they are at the senior bowl with Pioli and he is seeing which assistants/scouts that may be worth keeping.

Cowher loves the new facilities... working with Scott Pioli... the new attitude... & he wants to be able to come to KC and be the hero.

Apparently, Cowher drafted this former player and they remain good friends. And Cowher told him these things... allegedly.

My friend isn't a big bullshitter... but this would seem to be too good to be true.

cowher and pioli have the makings of a very good organization that players would LOVE to play for...

so, I'd say 80% that this happens... flame away if you like... but, I thought I'd share.

Actually, I think it was on Sirius. They were saying Pioli wasn't with the Chiefs staff and that he probably wasn't going to attend to avoid being mobbed by all the people wanting to get hired.

Why would he get mobbed when the Chiefs don't currently have any job openings?

I don't hate Cowher, but I don't have any great respect for him, either. I certainly liked him more before he was presented with a gift-wrapped Super Bowl by corrupt officials. Perhaps Pittsburgh would have won the game anyway, but we'll never know - it is now forever tainted; just as tainted as Denver's playoff win against us. But he did legitimately get there a couple of times - that cannot be denied.

If true, the best thing about signing Cowher (and signing Pioli before him) is that it makes us a sexy destination for players again, which we hadn't been for years under King Dickhead. Then we'll be more to prized free agents than bargaining leverage.

not personally a fan of another been-there-done-that coach, but he would finally get us quality assistants...and he must understand the importance of drafting a QB after striking gold with rothlesburger...so there's that

if we hadn't already failed with a superbowl coach i'd be more excited...and i doubt this could be kept a secret. cowher's "guys" would be leaking...

Okay gang, as many of you know I still have friends at the highest level in the Chiefs organization and have this info to share with full confidence: Scott Pioli is the new GM. His announcement will come Thursday or Friday at the latest. Clark and Scott are working out the finer points of his contract tonight (money & control), but the deal is sealed. Also, Clark informed Herm Edwards and his coaching staff that they will be released. All assistants can reapply through Scott.

I only share this information because I'm no longer with the team and it's fun to share that a new day is dawning at Arrowhead. Scott Pioli will quickly move to clean out the front office and hire a new coach.

The only info I have on the new coach is it will not be Kirk Ferentz from the Iowa Hawkeyes. Kirk coaches his son at Iowa and does not want to leave until his son graduates.

Mike Shanahan has contacted Pioli, but I don't know any info beyond that.

I never understood the hatred for Cowher, just because he coached under Marty.

He's a good coach, who obviously has a relationship with Pioli.

I wouldn't call it hatred for Cowher, I actually like his intensity.

But there are a couple of reasons I am not a fan of Cowher, and that I would not be excited if this turned out to be true.

One is that he does have a bit of Martyocrity in his philosophy and the second reason is that, to this point in time, SB winning coaches haven't achieved the same level of success with teams that them after their SB success.

I am aware that it's a small sample size, so he could easily buck the trend, but until it happens, I remain leary.

And I share your side of the story, but at the flip side, even with the list you gave out for Cowher, he would still be considered an improvement over Herman ****ing Edwards, anyway you want to slice it.
