Eric Berry signs franchise tender, to practice Monday 0 By Kevin Patra Around the NFL writer Published: Aug. 28, 2016 at 03:12 p.m. Updated: Aug. 28, 2016 at 04:31 p.m. Eric Berry is officially back. The Kansas City safety reported Sunday and signed his franchise tender, the team announced. Berry will practice with the Chiefs on Monday. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport first reported on Friday that Berry would return early this week. "He's in great shape. It's great to have him here," coach Andy Reid said of Berry. Reid added that he's leaning against playing Berry in Thursday's preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers. The coach said last week he wasn't worried about Berry's conditioning and believed the safety would be in shape to play Week 1, despite skipping all team-run activities this summer. Berry and the Chiefs did not agree on a long-term extension prior to the July 15 deadline, meaning he'll play 2016 on the $10.806 million tag. Until Berry signed his franchise tender on Sunday, the safety was not under contract, therefore not susceptible to being fined for skipping workouts. The sides can't negotiate a long-term deal until after the Chiefs season is over. |

It would be nice if these reporters would get their facts straight. Unless I'm mistaken, The Chiefs and Berry can't negotiate until after the league year is over. If the Chiefs were to miss the postseason, then their season would be over, and according to this guy, be able to negotiate.

Berry has stated he wants to play here. He will most likely have another All Pro year, will be another year cancer free- and the Chiefs will take care of him. |

Berry didn't report until late because he's pissed. Even if he was just pulling a TonyG he would have reported when camp broke. Berry waited to the very last second he could and still give himself a chance to play week 1 to protect his FA next year. Eric Berry The Leader Everyone

'just not wanting to play any preseason' is quite the example for teammates Berry has never seem to avoid practicing or playing in the preseason in the past. That didn't happen until his contract negotiations. I don't hate Berry but he's been overpaid his entire career and now he's pissed because the Chiefs don't want to overpay him even more. Reportedly he's also pissed because he doesn't want to pay insurance to protect himself and the Chiefs with his new contract. Berry is being kind of a dick.

He flat out says he wants Berry to make as much as he can, but that KC can't keep paying everyone "highest position money" because it's a salary capped league. I took that as saying they won't be giving Berry a long term contract. Especially when guys like Matheau got over 12m per year and next year the bar will be even higher...Berry will probably get over 13m per year in FA and we will get a third round comp pick for him. |

Not only would such a move wreck their cap, he doesn't play a premium position. Enjoy EB's final season in KC. |
