FCC Could Ban The Word "Redskins" From Radio & TV - Are The "Chiefs" Next?
These political correctness people are driving me nuts.
If they get their way concerning the Redskins perhaps they will go after the "Chiefs" next. "WASHINGTON, D.C. (GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL) — The Federal Communications Commission [FCC] could effectively ban the use of the word "Redskins" by broadcasters, based upon a filing by several former FCC commissioners and other communication law experts, if the team's name isn't changed, according to a letter sent Friday to team owner Dan Snyder which concluded that using the word "Redskin" on the air is likely to be contrary to federal broadcast law because it constitutes an "indecency" if not an "obscenity." The letter from former FCC chairman Reed Hundt and 11 other broadcast law experts says the R-word is the most derogatory name a Native American can be called, and is an "unequivocal racial slur" akin to the N-word. They liken the use of "Redskin" to an "obscenity," which is illegal on the public airwaves in any form, rather than simply an "indecency" which is restricted to certain times of the day." http://www.ketknbc.com/news/fcc-coul...-from-tv-radio http://rbr.com/fcc-could-ban-redskin...-radio-and-tv/ http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...s-is-indecent/ |

This will probably turn to DC quickly, but if you study the culture of Native Americans, the "R-word" is offensive. It's just not well known.

Lmao. You're a being a bigger cry baby about this than the people you re complaining about. Why does it hurt your feelings that a group of people are offended by the name Redskins? If it's a derogatory name it has no place in today's multicultural ssociety. I know some cp poster wish for the good old days whem racist terms and words were apart of our Americana, but those days are thankfully long gone...get over it.

An yet here you are. .mad victim. I never said I agreed with it one way or the other. I just made the point if it's offensive why are you ao offended by people being offended. This isn't something new. For decades Native American groups have tried to get the Redskins to change their name.

I agree but as you well know houston the Progressive Dem Marxists can't leave 'original American tradition' alone because 'this" is what they MUST destroy so that they can bring us this so called Progressive Marxist Utopia and supposedly improve our society.
Anything that encourages individual creativity that is competitive that makes a lot of $$ is actual SIN for the Marxist Dem. Political Correctness is nothing more than a made up term by the Marxist Left to attack 'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness'(original American culture) from many many different angles. |

"Redskins" and that racist-as-**** Chief Wahoo need to go first. As long as the NCAA is doing away with references to specific tribes without their permission, the Blackhawk Indians also should probably sign off if they want their tribe associated with a sports team. Atlanta Braves would be next. If worse comes to worst, the Chiefs could always do like the Golden State Warriors and just remove any reference to Native Americans in their team logo. And I seriously doubt we'll ever come to that. At least not for a long time. |

Actually no it doesn't, the Chiefs were named after former KC mayor H. Roe Bartle who was nicknamed "The Chief".

Of course, the arrowhead emblem implies Native American origin, and the original Chiefs emblem was pretty blatant. I had a stocking cap with this emblem on it, and the words "Big Red from the Flatlands."
