It really is weird how moments like that become etched in your mind. I remember EXACTLY where I was when I heard about it. Sitting in my car at a stop sign at 15th and Rural in Emporia, KS on the way back from a morning class. I went home, woke up my roommates, and watched the whole thing unfold on TV for the next couple hours. Very surreal.

(And damn, that was a shitty apartment.)

I agree, I'm amazed at how quickly time has passed. That day is still very vivid in my memory.

God bless all those and their families who perished in this tragic event.

I'll never forget. I wear black on 9/11. I was in Binghamton NY that morning for a meeting, and living in Pennsylvania. When they sent us home I remember driving on the highway and all the electric signs said, "All Roads to NYC Closed". People were driving like 90mph on the highway and I saw cops not pulling them over for speeding. My brother-in-law was working in Manhattan that morning and he said they all went outside and he says he actually saw people jumping from the buildings, and then he walked with all the other Queens residents back over the bridge to Queens because obviously there were no trains running.

Probably the most bizarre thing I remember about that day, at least from an obscure standpoint, was looking outside as I went into work. At this point, I had no idea about anything that had happened. By this point, the first plane had hit but not the second. I looked up in the sky and I see all these figure 8s way up in the sky. Like airlines were in a holding pattern or something. They were everywhere – so much so it caught my attention.

I went into work and was told what happened; obviously everyone was glued to the TV trying to figure out what was going on; then the 2nd plane hit. I swear….it was so quiet in that room. No one knew what to say, but everyone knew what was happening.

I was 1 year to the DAY removed from my active duty discharge from the Navy as an Intel Specialist; the emotions I had were anger; fear I may get called back to active duty after I finally landed a good job, and uncertainty of “what’s going to happen next? What else are they going to hit”.

Hard to believe it was 8 years ago.
Let’s not forget the fallen Americans of 9/11, WTC, and Pentagon, and their families – say an extra prayer to your God tonight for them.
