Does anyone here remember who the first NFL player was to break the million dollar contract barrier?
If my memory proves me correct is was none other than Mr. John Elway. I remember thinking that no services can be worth a million dollars unless they are saving lives or helping out society as a whole.
Boy havent things changed since then.
I believe it was Jerry Jones doing the "loop hole finding" in the salary cap and paying Deon Sanders to the first signing bonus that surpassed the 10 million dollar mark.

Just something to pass the time during the waiting game..............

Wow... can't recall. Wasn't his rookie deal in '83 like $5M? He might have been the first BIG money rookie, but I can't recall. I was only 12 in '83.

Wow.... my memory seems to have led me astray, that contract averages over 2 million a year. Now I'm stumped.

Side note I didnt know:

That was really a good guess, but a quick Google search:

"He served as running back for the Los Angeles Rams, with whom he signed a four-year, 10.65-million-dollar contract".

That was in 83', Elway was 86' so it would have to be someone pre 83'.
