A word of caution !!!!

It would be easy to get to enthused from this game, remember we crushed Atlanta last year and we were still a bad team defensively.

We appear to be improved but history with this team tells me not to get overconfident.

2nd our offense only looked good in the first quarter and we looked pretty weak thereafter.

We have to get healthy or we could lose to Oakland next Sunday night.

If we could pull out 1 win in the next 3 weeks we're in good shape. If we get 2 I'd be exstatic.

I totally agree. If we can go 2-2 in these first four then we are in good shape. 3-1 would be great shape.

Well the good news is Surtain and TRich should play. Sucks that Roaf is not supposed to play.

I still have hopes that we will win though and in fact now feel we have an 80 percent chance given Surtain does play.

I mentioned this earlier: we started the 2003 season with a 27-14 shellacking of the Chargers at home. Dominated them on both sides of the ball. We all remember how that year ended, and what kind of D we fielded.

I'm making myself keep that in mind....

Sunday will be a test. I want to see the same attitude and intensity. I want to see the same hard hits. I think the Raiders may be a team you can make quit if you get to them early, and Collins is the perfect kind of statuesque, fumble-prone QB to attack with the pressure with which we hit Pennington.

Moss will get his yards. He'll probably score. We can win despite that. And handily.

Worry about it tomorrow, though. Tonight is party time.

I agree, but we also finished 13-3 in 2003. I'd take 12-4 or 14-2 (for the sake of jinxes, not 13-3) into a home game at Arrowhead against Indianapolis, or anybody for that matter, with this defense. SD was 4-12 in '03, and I'm willing to put money that NYJ won't be a 4-12 team at the end of this season. Yes, we dominated the season opener in '03, but I don't see the two games as comparable.

I'm as jaded as anyone when it comes to the Chiefs but I'll bet my house that we're right in the middle of the NFL bell curve, if not better, on defense.

Sammy Knight (props to hits on calling this one) looks like a field general out there and that is EXACTLY what this team needed. Anyone who has ever had to supervise should know that attitude runs downhill.

Derrick Johnson and Bell are only going to get better baring injury and Warfield comes back in 3 games.

No Super Bowl prediction by any means but it is nice to see some D on the field again.

Just curious am I the only one who was not the least bit impressed with Bell. Did not wrap up, always seemed to be out of position, and was terrible in coverage. Yes he is fast but that is the only positive thing I saw regarding him.

Missed most of the game with the exception of the final quarter. You are correct, I didn't see much from Bell in that time either but he's got mojo.

Not much to back that up besides what I saw in Pittsburg unfortunatly but he'll get his ass in gear. Give him a week or two, he hasn't been on the field for almost two years.

Yes, I see the irony in that but I love that guy. NTTIAWWT

Did he have the games of Mitchell or Johnson, No. But he didn't need too because they were running plays away from him. They were testing DJ and Mitchell. I saw Bell making and disrupting a lot of plays.

That would probably be a product of no playing time in the preseason. Wait until this unit gels...

I was screaming my lungs out with the defense today. My neighbor had a little portable on his porch watching the Donks and I'd look over at him from time to time to ask how "His game" was going. He kept flipping me off.

That is true. You can not get too high over one win or too low over a loss. But it was a beautiful way to start!
