Major Concerns?
For me, it has to be the Offense. I see steady improvement in the Defense. They are still a long way from good, but I like the trend. Unfortunately, there has been very little consistency from the Offense. The Chiefs Defense is not going to stop the Chargers Offense. We can slow them down. We can key on Tomlinson and force Brees to win the game. We can blitz like mad and pummel Brees. But we are not going to shut the Chargers down. The game will turn on how many times the Chiefs Offense pulls a Houdini. xoxo~ Gaz Not as confident in the O as he once was. |

The Chiefs are schizoid. You never know which phase will suck.

The defensive secondary, more specifically, the assignments in the DS is what scares me most. Provided that Jared Allen is fully out of preschool and that Eric Hicks is not just happy to be on the field, the D-Line should function well. The D tackles can plug the holes. The soft zone will keep the wrong unit from being on the field, unless we tighten up the coverage. Anyone who read Priest Holmes' thoughts in the Star today, knows that the O can and will drive. What AS is doing, is giving Martyball back to Marty, and making Marty pass the ball. Meanwhile, second down for the Bolts means it's Drew Brees in the middle of sh*t sandwich, with the D ends being the bread. Brees can't run, and taking away the TE slant means he can't hide. Off tackle, off Willie Roaf, will be the play-du-jour. I look forward to seeing Marty handed his game plan back in his lap, and there ain't a thing he'll be able to do about it. Running the ball on one count is the surest thing to do against the crowd. They will be too busy boo-ing the Bolts' defense to stop PH and LJ.

I agree. The inconsistency of the O has been a big concern for me as well. If they don't have their stuff packed in one sock tomorrow, we are in for a "L."

If they can sack up and win in San Diego tomorrow I will officially be on the “this may be the year” bandwagon. Chargers are the best 3-4 team in the NFL and they’re going to be pissed.
Say what you will about Marty but he knows how to win in the regular season. As far as my biggest concern; the brain trusts in the front office running the show. |

My main concern is stopping the Chargers O. If we can somehow manage to keep LT, Gates and Co. from putting up 24+ points, I think we should win it. The tough part is going to be containing LT. After getting owned by the iggles last week, he is going to be looking for redemption this week.
The Chargers run D is pretty good, but the pass defense has been pretty bad (sound familiar). This game is likely to come down to turnovers. Whichever defense can force the most offensive mistakes will win the game. We need Jared Allen from the Washington game.

I'm going to give the offense the benefit of the doubt. I want to see a strong defense before I give them a free pass.
My specific worries right now are: 1. Wide receiver. We're one Kennison injury away from having receivers similar to our 2001 cast. 2. Defensive tackle. We're one Dalton injury away from Siavii being an everydown player - er, stander.

I actually voted special teams simply due to the horrible coverages we have seen all year. Tynes and Colquit are fine, Dante is Dante but Sproles could cause us problems this week.

It ain't a guns or butter situation...
I do not believe that being more concerned about the performance of the Offense than of the Defense constitutes giving the Defense a free pass. xoxo~ Gaz Multitask worrier. |

To me its special teams.
I'm not confident in our kick/punt coverage. The Bolts have a Dante-like returner in Sproles and we've been giving up big returns. In a game that could be decided by 3 pts I'm still not ready to call Tynes a lock either...
