12 y/o with Leukemia needs help -- insurance won't cover treatment
I don't know if this is out of order for the Planet, but I'm posting it. It'd be nice if someone could Sticky it. If it's out of protocol, go ahead and delete. This isn't a hoax guys. I'm just trying to do what I can to help.
There is a 12-year-old boy from Warrensburg, MO (about 45 miles to the east of Kansas City) that was recently diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) -- his name is Nathan Crabtree. He had an allergic reaction to traditional treatments. The doctors' recourse was to use experimental forms of treatment. The problem: his insurance company will not cover experimental treatments. The Optimist Club of Warresnburg, as well as many area churches, other Optimist clubs, and organizations in the area are desperately trying to raise $300,000 to help this young man receive the treatments he needs. A link to digitalBURG's story: http://www.digitalburg.com/artman/pu...icle_854.shtml A link to Nathan's website: http://caringbridge.com/cb/inputSite...=nathan_thomas We'd like as much help as we can get. Following is information from the flyer being passed out. Quote:

I used to work with a nurse named Crabtree. She was damn hot. This isn't her kid though.
This Crabtree family needs to contact the Shriners.

A Fundraiser for Nathan Crabtree
Nathan Crabtree's is 12 years old. He has been diagnosed with acute myelogeneous leukemia (AML) and needs a special type of bone marrow transplant. Since Aug. 28, 2005 he has been receiving chemotherapy treatments at Children's Mercy Hospital. The only real hope for Nathan is the bone marrow transplant. The treatment Nathan needs is at University of Minnesota's Fairview Hospital, a pioneer in bone marrow transplants. Unfortunately, the family's insurance carrier will not cover the treatment. With no insurance coverage, the hospital will not admit Nathan without a deposit of $307,500, about half of the $615,000 total cost .You can see pictures of Nathan here http://www.carlietree.com/nathan and read his story at http://www.digitalburg.com/artman/pu...icle_854.shtml We invite you to attend: "The Spa Fundraiser" On Feb. 2 from 4:15pm-8:00 pm, Janet Morris and Elizabeth Fuemmeller will host a spa experience for anyone that would like to show support for Nathan. Experience treats supplied by local caterers, sample teas or wine, enjoy a neck massage donated by massage therapists, give yourself a foot treatment, facial, a hand treatment or browse for some new spring color. Donations by: Classic Catering, Petit Four Catering, Hyvee (west), Vicki Dowdy Licensed Massage Therapist, and others Janet has offered her house with plenty of mingling space and Arbonne products for sampling, with all of the profit from products sold going to Nathan. Instead of giving your health and wellness dollars to a department store or drugstore, you get a chance to give the difference between retail and wholesale to Nathan. Massage therapists will work for your tips as donation to Nathan. There will be a raffle for a $50 gift certificate and door prize drawings for anyone who makes a purchase. Stop by for a drink, some food and connections with friends. Instead of meeting at a happy hour, let's make this a truly "happy hour" for Nathan. You can purchase superior products or just give donations knowing that ALL of the profit will help a child. Products offered will meet needs of babies, children, teens, men and women. Arbonne offers a complete line of botanically based products that are pure, safe, and beneficial, including: Swiss skin care from head to toe for the entire family Global Color for eyes, cheeks, lips Hair care (including products to encourage growth) Spa & Aromatherapy Nutritional Supplements for heart, joints, hormones, skin, prostate Safe Weight Loss and Weight Management without the use of caffeine or MaHuang Natural Hormone Balancing cream for PMS or Menopausal symptoms Date: Thursday Feb. 2, 2006 Time: 4-8 PM Place: PM BigRedChief for the address Here is the website for ordering products online to help out Nathan if you can't attend: https://www.arbonne.com/shop_online/frmset_shop_online.asp . You have to register. After you register enter Janet's id number 15212426 and register as a client and she will send the profits (35% of total order value) to Nathan.
