Law & Surtain: The Best CB Tandem in the League?

(Since it's all but "official". http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/15106482.htm )

Law & Surtain: The Best CB Tandem in the League?

That would have definitely been true 2-3 years ago.

Is it still true?

I don't know. If they are both healthy, and have "gas left in the tank" then I think they could be...

Even if they are healthy, and ready to play though, I'm not sure they will live up to their billing, UNLESS Sims and the DTs pick it up with more pressure from the inside. AND they get help from our safeties.

Otherwise they could become the two most overpaid "older" CBs in the league.

Here's hoping that Sims and Wesley (along with Edwards, Junior, and Pollard--not to mention Hali) can make a difference.

Two years older. With a lack of pressure from out DTs, and inconsistent Safety play....especially in coverage? Maybe not.

I wonder if they can do it by themselves at this stage in their careers.

They COULD be .......... alot depends on the defensive scheme and coaching.

i just pray that the new secondary coach and Edwards can hold Gunther's hand enough to help him not screw it up.

I'd say that going into the season.....a Law & Surtain CB tandem should be considered the best in football....

but by midseason.....bailey & d-will will be considered the best....

Ravens, C. McCalister/S. Rolle (very similar age)

Bucs, R. Barber/B. Kelly

Falcons- D. Hall/j. Williams (Best young corner tandem)

Personally, I think that Law & Surtain are a better tandem than any of those.

That's not to say they will perform better, because we do have some issues at DT and Safety which need to be addressed if they are to play up to their billing.

If healthy, I think McCallister and Rolle are both Pro Bowlers. That's a virtual wash, I think.

Kelly and Barber work very well together in Kiffin's scheme, but could probably not play as well for other teams.

Hall is an A++ CB for the next several years, arguably as good as Bailey. Williams needs to prove himself, but people don't doubt his potential. If he develops, next year they will top this list. (If you were building a franchise, this is the pair you'd want).

I think that it is arguable that we now have the best tandem with these other pairings, but having definitely a top-3 tandem is not small potatoes.

Trust me, I am partying down!!!

My take, given a choice of the four tandems....

Personally, I'd take the Atlanta youngsters. For now, and into the future. You are right. They will be very good for a long time.

As for the Ravens and Bucs, both are pro-bowl caliber pairs--no doubt about it. I do think both pairs though have a better "supporting cast" than either Surtain or Law have had, generally (sans Law's NE Superbowl days.)

I think the experience of Surtain and Law, together with the attitude they both bring to the field is precisely what you need at CB. And they both bring the wood better than those other pairs, IMO. McCallister and Rolle, in particular, are good cover guys....but I'd rather have Law and Surtain for blitzing and hard tackling. Same goes for Kelley and Barber, IMO.

Rgardless, it's SWEET to be having a discussion arguing over whether the Chief's CBs are 1st, or 3rd in the NFL.
