Let's go back to Julian. It'd be nice to have 4th of July fireworks in the snow occasionally. |

Let's stick with Gregorian. I like trying to figure out days and dates with no logic behind them. |

I don't think we need a calendar system. Time is an artificial construct. |

Time for a new calendar.
I'm tired of all this "30 days hath September" confusion. I'm always trying to remember if this month has 30 or 31 days, and my watch calendar is off, and the whole Gregorian calendar has lost its luster for me. It's time for a change.
What do you all think about these ideas? Option 1. The Perfectly Predictable Calendar. 13 months, 28 days each + a 1-day holiday at the end of each year. Every fourth year, the holiday is a two-day holiday, making everyone even happier. The nice thing about this calendar is that the 1st always falls on a Sunday every month, and every other day also falls in line consistently each month. There would be no more need for those idiot savants who can tell you the exact day of the week of any date. Oh, and the 13th month would be Rainmanber. Option 2. The Six-Day Week, 30-Day Dream. 12 months, 30 days each, with a five-day holiday season at the end of the year. Every fourth year it would be a six-day holiday. To make it easier, I would lean toward eliminating one day of the week, probably Tuesday, and going with consistent five-week months so we can link days of the week with dates. We would then work four-day weeks of 10 hours each. Option 3. The Nine-Month, 10-day week Two-Step. We have 10-day weeks, and 4 weeks per month. We have nine months, eliminating March, June, and September, and the same 5-6 day end-of-year holiday described in Option 2. We start our week with Sunday, a day of rest. Then we proceed to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at work. Then we have Cruiseday off. Then we go back to work on Slurpday, Nudeday, and Friday, and have Saturday off to start the weekend. The nice thing is that, as with Option 1, we would always know the day of the week for any date. For example, the 1st, 11th, 21st, and 31st would always be Sunday, while the 8th, 18th, 28th, and 38th would always be Nudeday. Anyone else have any good ideas? If not, let's pick an option and start using it. Last edited by Rain Man; 07-08-2007 at 04:19 PM.. |

Your birthday would always be on the same day of the week. Being born on a Wednesday, you'd always have your birthday in the middle of the week. You'd have to decide if you wanted to go out the weekend before or the weekend after in order to celebrate. Oh, and the name of the 13th month is pretty lame. ![]() |

You might have to move a couple of holidays, too, but hey, we did it to Washington's birthday.

It really is amazing how much time confines us. In sitting and thinking of some way to do away with all calendars, I think of how we would know which days to go to work. I think of 5 days on and 2 days off, but that is the definition of a 7 day week. Unless different jobs had different schedules. Like you have a job that is always 4 days on and 3 days off. Could you imagine how scheduling any activites in advance would be? Two people with different job schedules could figure out when they have the same days off, but there would be no way to mark it. No saying July 21-22. No saying "in two weeks".
Mind boggling, my friend. Just mind boggling. |

Yeah, it's funny to me how we never think about the meaning of a seven-day week. There's nothing confining us to a seven-day week except a biblical tradition that really has no bearing on anything other than maybe creating the universe. And what does that have to do with market research or health records data or any other job? I really kind of like Option 3, with a 10-day week. You work 4 days, get a day off, work 3 more days, then get 2 days off. You're still working the same amount: 5/7 = 71 percent of days, vs. 7/10 = 70 percent of days. Maybe it'd be nice to not have five-day marathons each week.
