"Not making plays" excuse/argument

For once I wish Herm would make a comment at a press conference like this:

"It's hard to win in this league when you average 3.7 yards per play on offense."

instead of

"We need to make more plays".

The latter suggests just getting unlucky in key spots; the former describes reality.

Listening to Herm's press conferences, one gets the feeling that Herm didn't watch the same games the rest of us have.
