Eric Price as offensive coordinator
I heard someone say on the radio today that they thought the Chiefs would give Eric Price a look to replace Solari. Price is the current coordinator and QB coach at UTEP.
I guess the big thing about him is that he runs a pass heavy offense, because they said he took the UTEP passing offense from being ranked in the 70s nationally before he got there to being ranked 30th in his first year. And it kept improving each year before reaching 5th last season. This year it fell to 25th because UTEP had to replace their QB (Jordan Palmer, brother of Carson) and best receiver (Johnnie Lee Higgins, now at Oakland). Herm knows him because Price was an offensive assistant in NY for a year or two. He was also the coordinator at Alabama with Brodie for about 5 minutes before his dad (Mike Price) got fired as head coach and Eric followed him to UTEP. I searched for his name and didnt find posts talking about him, so I just thought I would throw this out there. |

Really interesting. Price was also with Croyle for a spring in Alabama (as his dad's offensive coordinator). So he's got Herm and Brodie connections. I Googled some stuff from around that time and found that the Price-Croyle relationship was very strong:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/ins...abama_insider/ "We go shotgun a lot, we have a lot of quick hot routes," said sophomore quarterback Brodie Croyle, "but also on every route we have a deep ball, and you can take that any point in time you think you have it. There’s always that chance you might score on every play." For Croyle, the former all-everything prep star and son of former Bryant player John Croyle, Price’s hiring couldn’t have been more fortuitous. The Alabama native was once recruited by Washington State, which had him ranked as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country, but Price couldn't convince him to visit Pullman. Now Price has come to him. "I never imagined in my wildest dreams that Coach Price would come down here and I would get to play for him," said Croyle, who went 13-of-22 for 260 yards and three touchdowns in Alabama's spring game Saturday. "Nothing against the old staff at all, but the opportunity to throw the ball and make some big plays -- it’s a quarterback’s dream." http://www.cw.ua.edu/home/index.cfm?...7-2bd5458bdeda Quarterback Brodie Croyle said the team was disappointed in Witt's decision, and said many players still stand behind Price. "We feel like this is a big mistake," Croyle said. "I hope and pray we don't play a Mike Price team. He got us further along in four months than any other coach." |

On one hand, I like the idea of bringing in a young mind (kinda) who knows offenses and likes to open things up.
On the other hand, I don't like the idea of hiring back-to-back coordinators that have never run an NFL offense. Especially when the first one didn't work out. And especially when some notable coordinators (Cameron, Big Al) may be looking for jobs at the same time we're looking to hire. I wish I knew more about UTEP to know if this was a guy worth having. |

At least this guy as experience as an OC, and with QB's. I would much rather a young college OC/QB coach be our new OC than an old Oline coach.

yes, this is the type of experience we need, someone who understands the QB position...not saying this guy is the answer..

This guy might be OK with a HC who can bring him along. We would have a HC and an OC who know nothing about running an NFL offense. We already have that, I dont see it as much of an upgrade.
Lets get a proven OC who is capable of taking Herms job in the near future!! |
