Misc Good deal on Airfare

We've set a date to take our two kids to Disney World next March. Our dates are locked in and solid. What should I do about plane tickets? I've never purchased plane tickets before so I'm a bit unsure. Should I wait until closer to the time, or is there some place I can lock in a good deal now? What should I expect to pay for 4 round-trip tickets from KC - Orlando?

Go to kayak.com to compare dates, airlines, and prices. Southwest however, is not listed here...you will have to go to their site to get prices.

I tried to get airline confirmations a year out but I usually ran into a 6 month flight windows, due to changes in flights and prices.

Wait. You cannot book tickets that are too far out, and deals are never had by booking early.

Just a hunch, but KC to Orlando I'd be looking at Southwest and Air Tran, they're always cheap.

Yeah, I'm just figuring that out. I'll wait several months and start checking prices at that time.

I think it might be too early to buy tickets. If you can buy them sooner and you're absolutely, positively sure your timing won't change, you might as well. But with that much time, I think you should probably just check prices periodically over the next several months and buy when you can get a good deal.

As a note, the airlines are satanic and do not care about people at all. If you buy your tickets through any third party like Orbitz or Expedia, and you have any trouble at all, the airlines will leave you lying in a ditch and don't care whether you live or die. Even though I don't like paying satanic companies, you're best off to watch prices through Orbitz and then buy them directly from the airline site. I've never used those sites like that William Shatner place, so I don't know how they compare.

We purchased ours through expedia.com. Got an awesome deal. 2 adults and 4 children for 998.oo . Our air carrier was Air Tran.

Two sites I always check are Sidestep.com (great compilation of different airlines and travel sites) and Farecast.com. Farecast will tell you if you should buy now or later.
