If Selvie can put on 20 more pounds, then their's the Jared Allen replacement.

Production 2 Orakpo has played in 35 career games (10 starts) and has notched 90 tackles, 19 TFL, 10.5 sacks, 32 pressures, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery during his three seasons of playing time thus far. He redshirted in 2004 before playing in all 13 games (one start) at defensive end in 2005. He played in all 13 games as a sophomore in 2006, finishing with 26 tackles, including 4.5 sacks. Orakpo then started eight of the nine games he played as a junior in 2007, finishing with 37 tackles, nine TFL, 5.5 sacks, 12 pressures and a forced fumble Height-Weight-Speed 2 Possesses adequate height and bulk. Still has some room left on his frame to get bigger. Speed is adequate-to-good but not at elite level Durability 3 Sprained right knee during 2007 opener (Arkansas State) was an early setback. He missed the next four games as a result but did finish the season strong, including two sacks vs. ASU in Holiday Bowl. Character 0 N/A Defensive End specific Traits Agility/Quickness 2 Very fluid athlete. Can change directions smoothly for a taller end and shows good closing quickness in pursuit. But he lacks ideal initial burst and seems to take too long to reach full speed. Strength/Toughness 3 Stronger in the upper body than he is in the lower body. Does not have the base to win many phone booth battles and he doesn't do himself any favors by playing too high at times Instincts 3 Snap anticipation is inconsistent. Seems to find the ball quickly in the backfield. Also does a good job of getting his arms up as a pass rusher in order to bat passes down when he doesn't get to the QB in time Pass Rusher 2 He's a fluid athlete with some good double moves as a pass rusher. He has solid instincts and closing burst to the QB. However, his initial burst was not that of an elite edge rusher in 2007, which is partially attributed to his sprained knee in the season opener. Most of his sack production comes from him stunting/angling/twisting to the inside. Needs to prove in 2008 he has to burst to consistently turn the corner as an edge rusher in the NFL. Run Stopper 3 Much improved in this area but still a work in progress. Does a good job of using his long arms and quick hands to keep blockers off his pads temporarily. Plays with discipline and will fight to finish. However, he lacks ideal size, he plays with a narrow base and he struggles to hold ground when teams run at him. Also does not protect his legs well enough. Trait Scale 1 = Exceptional 2 = Above average 3 = Average 4 = Below average 5 = Marginal

I will say that I am nervous about spending a top three pick on a Texas player. They habitually underachieve in the NFL. |

Michael Johnson
Production 2 Johnson appeared in 11 games during his true freshman season in 2005. He recorded one sack and forced a fumble on kickoff coverage that year. Johnson started one of the 12 games he appeared in during the 2006 season finishing with 34 total tackles, 25 unassisted tackles, six tackles-for-loss and five sacks. He also forced three fumbles and broke up two passes but missed the first two games of the season with an injury that year. (see durability) Johnson started one of the 13 games he appeared in during the 2007 season, finishing with 21 total tackles, 11 unassisted tackles, six tackles-for-loss and four sacks. He also broke up one pass, forced three fumbles, recovered a fumble and blocked three kicks. Height-Weight-Speed 2 Johnson is lean but he's got the frame to add substantial weight and he shows outstanding top-end speed Durability 3 Johnson missed the first two games of the 2006 season with an injury and didn't participate in 2007 spring practices because of injuries Character 0 N/A Defensive End specific Traits Agility/Quickness 1 Explosive first step and changes directions well when attacking upfield Strength/Toughness 3 Flashes a strong upper body and can extend arms once locked on but lacks ideal lower body strength. Can deliver the big hit and put blockers on their backs when they get off balance but isn't stout enough when teams run at him. Instincts 3 Can get drawn off-sides by hard counts. Doesn't show a great understanding of blocking angles and can get sealed inside by tight ends blocking down. Too aggressive collapsing inside at times and can get caught too far inside on bootlegs. Pass Rusher 1 Shoots gaps, closes well and can deliver the big hit. Can set tackles up to the outside before redirecting inside and flashes an effective rip move. Has long arms and can tip passes when doesn't get to the quarterback Run Stopper 3 Plays too high and gets driven off the ball too much. Sideline-to-sideline run defender that takes adequate angles to the ball and shows great range at times but gears down a little too much. At times appears more interested in blindsiding offensive linemen than getting to the ball. (see first quarter of the 2007 Virginia game)

Selvie is going to be an outside backer in a 3-4 system I like Johnson and Orakpo in that order Johnson is Gaines Adams, Julius Peppers type of player. Orakpo could be a very good player to just prefer Johnson right now. Kyle Moore out of USC is gonna rise up draft boards come this spring as well. Another junior that might declare Greg Hardy from Ole Miss is very good as well.

He has good burst off the ball and is very quick to the edge which seems to make players more productive in the NFL plus he is long and a freakish athlete. Orakpo didn't do good against Phil Loadholt from Oklahoma(decent NFL prospect). I think also Orakpo is gonna end up at 3-4 outside backer too. Plus it is just a gut feeling that I think Johnson will be the better pro.

Micheal Johnson gets owned all the time, Taylor the GT sophmore is the guy to watch. He's the one making all the plays for GT. Orakpo is just now getting over some nagging injuries, and during the Oklahoma game Orkapo was a force man.Orkapo is a freakish athlete with production to boot.
