The Thread that Claythan Hates

Claythan, here's an interesting situation developing....

If the Chiefs hire Mike Shanahan, the coach you've been wanting for so long, that could mean that Tyler Thigpen becomes the Chiefs' QBOTF.

While Shanahan seemed to like Cutler, Thigpen is the mobile, bootlegging QB that he's always loved.

Just a thought.

Pioli isn't going to keep Thigpen as QBOTF I bet. The Chiefs are going to keep drafting QBs every year, that's according to Clark Hunt.

If Shanahan sees something in Thigpen, go Thigpen.

I do not hate Tyler Thipgen. I want him to succeed. I just doubt him.

I'm just messing with you. But I also wanted to bring up that this could be a really interesting pairing. I always thought that if Plummer ever got his head out of his ass, he would have been a virtually unstoppable force in Shanahan's offense. When Plummer was on, he was impossible to stop.

Thigpen could be a very interesting option in a Mike Shanahan offense. While I'm sure Shanahan likes a Cutler-like QB, Denver hasn't been the same wild and wacky bootleg/misdirection offense that we used to know them for having. This kind of offense is actually tailor-made for a guy like Thigpen. Doesn't mean he's the best option, but it's something to think about.

You need to be able to hit a target downfield. Thigpen hasn't shown that. The main thing a QB does is still passing the football.

While true, he already throws a better deep ball than Plummer, he'd be in an offense where the deep ball is a much lower priority than the short and intermediate routes (which Thigpen hasn't been bad at), and it would revolve around an offense where the trickery in moving the QB in all different directions opens up your running game.

As good as Cutler is and while Cutler is not a statue, it just seemed like that misdirection trickery has been missing in Shanahan's offense of late. Maybe that's why they haven't been able to run the ball nearly as well as they used to.

The ground game fell off b/c the talent wasn't as great as previous seasons...

Shanahan is not coming to KC. He wants to go to a winning team that is ready to win now. If Shanahan came to KC he would need 4 new O-lineman- 3 new WR's, a new QB, new RB, new TE (TG is getting old), 3 new D-lineman, 3 new linebackers... And Shanahan wouldn't have control of personnel decisions like he is accustomed too.

If Shanahan wanted to rebuild a 2-14 team from the ground up (which he doesn't) he would want to be able to pick his players.

This idea that it takes 3-4 years to rebuild an NFL team in today's day and age is ludicrous.

You guys have been rebuilding for 2 or 3 years already, Oakland has been rebuilding for the past 6 seasons, Denver has been rebuilding the defense for the past 2 seasons.

The Dolphins and Falcons were average teams with a decent defense already there. They played "Martyball" with their running game all season and then were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

No we haven't been rebuilding for two or three years.

Yes, we had some draft picks come in and play in '06 and '07, but the Chiefs were trying to plug some holes with vet free agents like McIntosh and Nap Harris to continue the cycle of mediocrity that we've endured for years.

The rebuild started with blowing up the roster and playing a bunch of rookies in '08.

We have been "rebuilding" with two complete morons in charge. We weren't rebuilding; we were Detroit South.
