Tony would still like to be traded
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Contrary to remarks by Kansas City owner Clark Hunt, Tony Gonzalez wants to be traded if the right deal can be made, a person close to the Pro Bowl tight end told the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Asking not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the subject, the person said Gonzalez was surprised that Hunt had said the Chiefs were definitely not going to trade their 10-time Pro Bowler. "If the right deal can be made, Tony very much wants the Chiefs to trade him," the person said. "Tony is not demanding a trade. Tony cherishes the time he's spent with the Chiefs and he loves the way he's always been treated by the fans there. But he knows of some other teams that would be interested in him and if the right deal can be made, he wants it to be made." A Chiefs spokesman said Hunt could not be immediately reached. At the owners' meeting in Dana Point, Calif., on Monday, Hunt said the Chiefs had decided not to deal Gonzalez, whose many NFL records includes the most catches, yards receiving and touchdown receptions by a tight end. "We certainly will not seek a trade for Tony," Hunt told the Kansas City Star. "I think he's excited about the changes we've made here. I think he recognizes that with Todd (Haley) as the head coach, we're going to have an exciting offense and one that will feature the passing game." Since the end of a 2-14 season, the Chiefs have installed Scott Pioli as general manager and Haley as head coach. The 33-year-old Gonzalez asked to be traded last October. But then-general manager Carl Peterson said no team that Gonzalez was willing to go to made a good enough offer. The only tight end in NFL history selected to 10 Pro Bowls, Gonzalez was usually double-teamed last year but still caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns. He plans on playing at least one more season and possibly two. "If the Chiefs can't make a deal with the right team, then Tony will be fine with that," the AP was told. "He is not demanding a trade. But if the right deal can be made, he very much would like to be traded." If this is a repost, sorry, deal with it. I did not see this on the first several pages. Really it is old news with just some new quotes. |

While I'm not angry with Tony for stating how he's feeling I as well as many other Chiefs fans have been waiting for a lot longer for a championship!

I still don't think any of those players end up getting traded. I think after Mini-camps and the draft all will be well heading into training camp.

Owner is the key to the Gonzalez story
March 25, 2009 8:45 AM Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson DANA POINT, Calif. -- A day after Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt told the Kansas City Star that the team wasn't going to trade Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez, a source close to the player told The Associated Press he would be open to a trade. Gonzalez The key, though, is what Hunt wants. If the Chiefs don't want to trade Gonzalez, they don't have to. Gonzalez acknowledged that much in early February when I caught up with him at the Pro Bowl. He said at the time he didn't know if he wanted to be traded, but said it didn't matter because he is under contract and the Chiefs will make the call. Gonzalez, who had one of his best NFL seasons in his 12-year career in 2008, would be a terrific receiving option for new quarterback Matt Cassel. It is very easy to see why the team would want to keep Gonzalez. The source close to him says Gonzalez is open to a deal because he wants to go to a contender. The Chiefs have won just six games the past two seasons and they have made modest upgrades to their anemic defense so far in the offseason. Still, it would be highly unlikely for Gonzalez to cause a stink if the Chiefs held onto him. Gonzalez is revered in Kansas City and the future Hall of Famer will be forever linked to the city. The impression I've gotten from Gonzalez has been that he does want to play for a contender, but it would break his heart to leave the Chiefs. And the bottom line in this situation is what the Chiefs want -- and it appears they want Gonzalez.

I still think you will be hard pressed to get compensation that will match his production for the team. Yeah, it may only be 2 years of production, but that's still a ****load of catches, yards, touchdowns, first downs, QB bailouts, blocking, leadership, and mentorship that will occur in the next 1-2 years.

He will be a Chief. No chance that the Chiefs would be able to get even decent compensation compared what Tony will put up on the field.
Say they Chiefs were able to get a 3rd rounder for him. Great, we have added another draft pick but have added another huge hole and the #1 receiving option. How good would you feel about going into a season with Bowe and his frequent drops as the most reliable option? |

If Douche Radio 810 didn't have a "bitch about Gonzales" episode every 3 to 4 months, I'd have to go outside and make sure that frogs weren't raining from the sky.
