Any Piano gurus here?
Long story short.
We just moved a piano into our home today. Its about 80 years old, baby grand. It has no markings or serial numbers ANYWHERE. Originally purchased in Vermont. I'm on the piano forums asking around but I thought there might be someone here in the brain trust who might know a thing or two about them. I would like to know who made the piano and when it was made so I can pass the info along to the insurance company. Any help would be appreciated. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

All I know for sure is that you can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish.

The piano my have had some work done.
Some less-than-careful refurbishers sometimes cover up the serial number when they repaint the harp. Try pulling the action and looking on the action frame. Or it may be on top of the keybed -- action has to be pulled completely out. Crawl underneath and see if it is on the keybed or stenciled to one of the radial beams. Use a flashlight. Or consult a technician who has a Pierce atlas.

You need to find the manufactures name or consult a piano technician who has a Pierce atlas.

"I'm on the piano forums"
There are piano forums out there?? Lord Jesus please come back NOW Posted via Mobile Device[/QUOTE] There are forums for damn near everything. I just signed up to ask my questions. I don't give two shits about the piano but I think my wife would have an even greater sense of pride about her piano if she knew what it was. ![]() Plus I'd like to have some info about it to give to the insurance if something were to happen. *knock on wood* |

I don't know what the numbers mean, since I'm not a piano technician. If I had to guess just looking at the photos and what information you've provided is that you have an old Wurlitzer, back when they used to make semi-decent pianos.
But of course, that's just a guess. The music rack looks familiar, and I know that brand was popular before the 1950s. I guess what I'm trying to say is I have no ****ing idea. If your piano tuner doesn't know, I'm willing to bet he knows the name of a qualified technician who can look up those numbers you tracked down and find out what exactly you have. Please don't hesitate to give me positive rep if I'm correct ![]() Good luck. |
