Chiefs Trades accelerate the cap hit.

I was just thinking about the 'trades' that may happen with the Chiefs. DJ would actually save the Chiefs cap space.

But, the trade for Dorsey would be a significant hit to the cap for the Chiefs.

Considering they are millions away from the salary floor, could this be a motivation?

If the Chiefs do not spend the salary floor, they can be penalized draft picks.

So, they can take the full hit from trading Dorsey and that probably puts them over the minimum.... and takes the pressure off of them trying to figure out how to spend the minimum extending the players they already have.

So, am I reaching here, or do you think it might play into it?

True... but I do have to wonder if these things factor in. I think the Chiefs are in a cash saving mode as the economy stinks, and they are mid renovations. Just a thought.

I just read the other day that being penalized a pick(s) is a last ditch response.

What would likely happen is that the Chiefs would take the $7M they are under the salary floor, and divide it amongst all players that were on the 53 man roster.

Okay, but that still costs seven million dollars. Dorsey had how many millions in signing bonus? Accelerate all of that, and they are out no more money.

I think they go ahead and resign Cassel for 12 years and 450 million-that way they can put more off the street scrubs out there and stay away from the floor-lol

They don't distribute it among the final 53, I believe it is distributed among the final 75.

If I implied it was the "final" 53, then my mistake.

My understanding is that it would be divided amongst anyone that was EVER part of the 53 man roster at any time.

I could be wrong on that as well, but was the way I understood it.
