Any Topsy-Turvey Planter users here?
Has anyones used these Topsey-Turvey planters? I was thinking about getting some to grow some 'Maters in. Are they worth it or are they junk?

NONONONONONONO...

They dry out to quickly, tomatoes don't grow as large, and the plants really get thrown about if you are in a windy area.

Tried them twice in different years. Bad investment.

I do a lot of gardening, btw.

Those problems can be solved by growing it indoors and hanging it on your shower head with a continuous slow trickle of water.

Thanks for the info. The wind was one of my concerns as it is always windy here in good ole' Olathe. The wife doesn't really want me digging a garden so I guess I am going to stay with cannister\planter type plants for me maters. Just sucks though cause they are only the smaller cherry type tomatoes. I want a plant with some big fat ****ers as well.

Don't limit yourself to the "container" varieties in pots.

Anything will grow in a container if you fertilize and water enough. Buy a few big whiskey barrels or clay pots and plant any beefy tomato you want.

Skip Towne posted this same question last year and I posted that I'd never use a topsy turvy thingy even if it was the only option. [Insert tree hugger justification here.]

My parents have a couple and love them. Nice, big tomatoes. We also had a good experience with one except for the fact that my psycho neighbor kept stealing our tomatoes.

sure they work. just kinda weird having the roots in direct sun absorbing the heat and all. The plants grow and curve back up to the sun, but then the weight of the fruit will hold the vines and stems down.

How often do you have to water them? Being above ground I could see how they would dry out easier.

I water them as often as the wife wants to do it.

Honestly, I have no idea. I would guess that she would water once a day and then again if necessary.
