Dockett: Haynesworth should be accountable

Dockett: Haynesworth should be accountable

Posted: June 15th, 2010 | Frank Tadych | Tags: Arizona Cardinals, Darnell Dockett

When Darnell Dockett of the Arizona Cardinals checked in for a live chat on NFL.com on Tuesday, let’s just say he didn’t hold back. Among the chat topics on the table were his professed love of Oprah Winfrey, his thoughts on Matt Leinart and the tough loss of teammate Karlos Dansby to the Dolphins. All good.

But Dockett Unplugged was at its best when the topic of Albert Haynesworth came up. Haynesworth, as you know by now, has boycotted the Redskins’ offseason program in protest of his unhappiness in the switch to a 3-4 defense. The defensive linemen — who reportedly refuses to play nose tackle — with the $100 million contract that includes $41 million in guaranteed money is expected to report when the team opens mandatory minicamp Wednesday.

When asked what he would do if a teammate responded the same way, Dockett said he would request a trade.

“If I were his teammate, I would ask for a trade,” Dockett told fans. “There’s no way you can win with a guy like that on your team. I would feel like he’s the highest paid player in the NFL, and that he alone is supposed to be at everything before everyone else, and have the most accountability.

“No disrespect to the player on [the Redskins] who is getting that much, but a lot of guys would go above and beyond to get a contract like that. Personally, if they were to pay me that much, I would go outside and help set the field up before practice!”

Check out the rest of what Dockett had to say here.

Exhibit #18570185 on why everyone is mortified on giving out long term, big money contracts to players.

Damn. it's too bad Dockett and Berry aren't teammates.

We'd have the only combination players/equipment man/groundskeeper in the league.
