We tried to figure out earlier this week exactly what was going on with unsigned Chiefs restricted free agent safety Jarrad Page.

Now we have a better idea.

In a press release sent to PFT Friday night, Page's representation said they submitted a "formal trade request" to the Chiefs on Thursday. The release notes that "Entering the 2009 season, Jarrad Page had more interceptions than any other safety selected in the 2006 draft class. Page is entering his fifth NFL season."

Page has started 39 games in four seasons and produced plenty, but it's hard to believe he would inspire much of a trade market, if any, coming off a disappointing year.

With the tender they placed him at, he has been able to talk to other teams about a trade for months now. They placed a second round tender on the guy, so if a team wanted him they could have gotten him. Teams are seemingly preparing for a lockout next year and arent trading high picks for even the biggest playmakers (which Page isnt)

I bet if someone came forward with a fourth round pick, he would be gone. Trouble is, nobody will.

He isnt that good.

He should just sack up and play.

That was my thought. He doesn't think he's going to start, so he wants to move somewhere else.

I actually like Page and think he could be a decent contributor. I'd hate to see him go, and think he's still got a fair chance to start if Berry is going to be a (sigh) strong safety.

Who the hell is gonna trade for a average safety, coming off injury that IRd him last year, that his only reason for not showing up to practice with his team is that he wants a long term deal...the year before a probable lockout?
