Open World Cause Megathread
Update 8/4/14:
We did it! Thanks to your incredible support and our organizational partners around the world, we were able to break ground on a new school that will provide education to deserving students in a rural community in Nepal. In addition to providing educational access, the school will serve first hub of clean, running water for the community. We are now turning our sights to traveling to the school next summer to build a fourth classroom (this will allow the school to accept and educate every available child in the community) and teach a group of students for a month next summer. Any more of your support would be incredibly appreciated. Thank you all again. Well, other than surfing Chiefsplanet, (As another member has pointed out), they're about to begin projects with schools in Pakistan, Lithuania, India, and potentially a school in the United States. Govinda, (The teacher of the school) has also fully implemented the laptops into his curriculum.

Maybe because food pantries in the KC metro are clamoring for food donations because they can't meet demand of the unemployed, poor, etc., to just get the basics... much less a laptop with an Internet connection.

Another good organization helping kids in Nepal is http://nepalyouthfoundation.org/
I contribute to a fund that buys girls back after they get sold by their impoverished families. A piglet & 5 gallons of kerosene is enough to buy a kid back from servitude. Unfortunately, they go back to a family that sold them. Side note: Some khukri-making Kamis were raising funds to put a Nepalese dude through med school in India by holding a raffle for some beautiful, hand-forged khukris that they made. He's working as a doctor in Nepal now. I bought spots for both raffles & won both knives. Serious good luck. Here's a pic of one of 'em. 22 inches long, forged out of 5150 spring steel by the former Royal Kami of Nepal: |

Maybe if you'd read the OP you'd see that he's not asking for donations. And that this is more than providing laptops and internet connections.

Couldn't get a soda at the driving range today. All I had left were some nepalese coins.
