Trying to guesstimate cost on fixing 2001 f150
I have a 2001 f150 with 180k miles that has a head that had to get a sleeve put in it for the spark plug years back. That sleeve is now loose and the shop said it probably won't be able to be repaired when, not if, it comes loose again.
They said if that happens it will take replacing the head to keep it running, and I was trying to figure out if that would be a cost effective option, or if I should just trade the thing in while I could. The head is the passenger side head on the #3 cylinder, if that matters in the situation. |

Usually they will sleeve again or junk yard head that bitch. That ford spark plug thing is complete crap on the manufacturers part.

If the rest of the truck is in good shape & you want to keep it, you might want to replace the motor considering the miles it has on it.

Hm...noted and a viable option. What I'd like to do is keep the truck in running order, and get a motorcycle for my hour commute to work instead of just getting a new car that will get better (than the truck), but not as good of mileage as the bike and have a much higher payment.

In all seriousness, it's strange the shop can't fix it but that might mean whoever fixed it the first time messed it up. Here's a website for Timesert, apparently this is not an uncommon problem for the 5.4L and 4.6L V8s: http://www.blownoutsparkplug.com/

I had the same thing happen and put a sleeve in my F250 with a 5.4. I ended up selling it pretty soon after I installed the sleeve as I was told by multiple people that the head cannot be swapped with the motor in chassis. Also was told, but not 100% sure, that the body has to be lifted to swap motors if you go that route. Keep in mind this was a F250 SD and not an F150. I bought a gmc with the 5.3 and don't have to worry about all that bullshit with those ford mod motors

It's probably going to cost a lot.
