Hurd said he smoked and sold marijuana to 20 to 25 of his Cowboys teammates while with the team from 2006 to 2010.


Hurd said in the story that “at least half” of all NFL players, by his “conservative estimate,” smoke marijuana. Hurd said he began smoking while rehabbing after ankle surgery in 2008.

It was kind of an interesting story with some good tidbits, but it never seemed to go anywhere. My main takeaways were:

1. How does a person buy a ton of marijuana? Where are you putting a ton of marijuana? Do you have a room in your house that's packed floor to ceiling with it?

2. It's hard to maintain your innocence when you're on tape arranging to buy 50 kilograms of cocaine PER WEEK.

3. I really don't understand why a person wants so badly to put smoke into their lungs. It just seems so pointless, and yet some people build their whole lives around it.

4. The drug culture is pretty amazing when you have a guy running a firestone who's setting up drug deals with Mexican cartels.

i was on the team w Sam all 4 years at NIU. never would have guessed he'd be in this type of trouble. he was kind of an idiot sometimes, but i didnt see this coming. was always a nice kid, funny guy... i feel bad for his family
