The Official "It's so early but what the hell" mock draft
The season isn't even over, yet it is so...
...let's f**king mock! ![]() Free Agency: QB, RB, TE, FB, DL, OLB & CB don't change (or don't change very significantly). Depth is brought in here and there. WR, OL, ILB and S positions are addressed at in FA. Without a ton of cash to spend, they can't go crazy. WR - Bowe and McCluster stay put. Only one big name WR comes in and I gonna roll with Golden Tate. If Maclin has a clean med report then maybe he does rejoin Reid. Hell, maybe Riley the Racist Cooper swings on by. OL - Assuming the Chiefs re-sign Schwartz & Asamoah while letting Albert walk. Roger Saffold (Stl) apparently wants to test the market and at only 25, why not give him a look see. At only 26, Austin Howard (NYJ) is worth a look. ILB - If the G-Men can't resign Jon Beason I'd like him here. Still only 28 but with a history of injuries he can still play very well when out there. If not, it sounds Spikes will be available. S - We need to re-sign Abdullah and if we can't snag T.J Ward away from the Browns then we may need to rely on the draft. Don't think we should drop huge coin (that we don't have) on Byrd. Maybe a Michael Mitchell type can fill the void. The Draft: RD 1 - 3-4 DE Stephon Tuitt - In 2013, Tuitt totaled 49 tackles with nine tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, one forced fumbles and a pick-six. He showed off his athletic ability with some pass pressures and a diving interception for a touchdown against Michigan. Big and athletic! Next to Poe? That could be nutty. ![]() RD 3 - FS Calvin Pryor - Pryor has been a play-maker for Louisville this season as a hard-hitting safety. The junior has 69 tackles, three interceptions, four passes broken up and two forced fumbles in 2013. ![]() RD 4 - 3-4 OLB Dee Ford - High effort player. Has a good motor when rushing the passer and will get his share of hustle sacks. Flashes a nice bull-rush when he plays with good leverage and gets under the pads of the opposing lineman. Has the strength to drive the tackle back into the pocket. Has some experience dropping back into coverage. Does a good job of anticipating the snap count to get a quick jump on the play. ![]() RD 5 - WR Donte Moncrief - The 6-foot-3, 226-pounder from Raleigh, Miss., had 59 catches for 938 yards and six touchdowns this season. Moncrief's career numbers of 156 catches, 2,371 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns all rank third in school history. ![]() RD 6a - TE Joe Don Duncan - Joe Don Duncan shattered records as a junior in 2011… he bested those marks in 2013. The tight end corraled a team-high 71 grabs for 1,045 yards with 13 touchdowns. Small school kid but looks like he has real talent and athleticism. ![]() RD 6b - OT Wesley Johnson - Johnson is an undersized, but versatile offensive lineman. He played well in 2013 including a good performance against South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. If this kid can out some muscle on he could be a huge steal this late. ![]() Please feel free to comment, bash or add your own twist. |

If the draft were next week? Sure. The draft is still months away and we haven't had the combine, interviews, etc. For me, this is wishful thinking yet I still feel it's possible. Hell, by draft weekend the first 5 picks could go in the first 2 rounds or maybe some of them won't get picked until day 3. Who the hell knows?
Did anyone think a guy like Bray was going to be an UDFA at this point last year? Did anyone think Burfict was going to be an UDFA this time 2 years ago? Just having fun with this thing while my team is either golfing in Arizona or boozing in Miami as the playoffs continue on. |

At worst, Moncrief is a second/early 3rd rounder.

Bullshit. Tuitt had surgery last offseason and put on excess weight. He still hasn't lost all of it. The combine will tell us where he goes. If he shows up leaner and blows it up....then yeah he'll probably go in the top 15. But if he's still sitting at 315-320...he very well could fall to 23. The advisory board didn't give him a 2nd round grade for shits and giggles.

Skip the OT and get me another pass rush specialist or CB with that pick.
We can get a journeyman OT in free agency. |

If it's as you say, the guy showed up out of shape for the 2013 season, he still kicked ass with 7.5 sacks and all that went with it. Now, it (Tuitt/Nix) could be a Mario Williams/rest of the NC State Defensive line or Julius Peppers/Ryan Sims thing where you have one guy kicking the shit out of stuff and the other guy cleaning up on it, both get drafted high in the NFL Draft, but it's obvious early that it's the one guy versus two or more guys having that talent level, but I don't think Kelly would have put up such a bitch about Tuitt leaving early if he wasn't the keystone of that defense. I don't necessarily like him at the same stage as I did Michael Brockers for the five tech position, and it ultimately depends on what they do with Jackson in free agency, but Tuitt has a tremendous ceiling IMO. That being said, that's why the guy isn't going to be around when the Chiefs pick. No way, no how. If I was one of the teams picking in the top ten, I'd be very tempted to take him over anybody in this draft. I think Jake Matthews is the best player in this draft, and then you could make the argument that Tuitt is right there behind him. And the Joe Don pick is still awesome. Although, if I was picking a tight end around that area, Fresno State's Marcel Jensen is the guy. Huge, athletic and has a very high football IQ. |

The Joe Don pick is awesome.
I still think you guys are insane thinking Tuitt is going to be there with the 23 pick. 6'7", 310 lbs. with 20 sacks over the last two seasons from the DT spot. That's nuts. I'd love the guy on the Chiefs but he might be a top five pick when it's all said and done. |

Sorry man. I was initially going off what I saw from him in 2012 watching their games. While his 12 sacks were impressive, I think he benefitted from scheme and other players more than creating his own. Watching him this season, you noticed how stiff he plays/lack of fluidity and how he isn't very powerful in one on one matchups. For a guy of that size, he's more finesse than power and I don't think that bodes well for a guy projecting over to a five tech 34 defensive end. You've obviously got a better understanding of his game than I, so I'll just leave the objective analysis of Tuitt to your observations. However, my two cents are that he's not an upgrade to what we've already got on roster versus the WR's that will most likely be available when the Chiefs pick in the first round. |
