Do you use it?
I'm curious how many CP members use radar detecting or lidar defeating technology. I know 2 "states" (DC and Virginia) prohibit the use of detectors, about a dozen states prohibit lidar jamming and the feds prohibit all radar jamming.
So let's hear it CP what kind of setup do you use? Any good stories just missing a ticket? Poll forthcoming. |

A friend of mine and some of his fellow Navy buddies got sick of the speed traps the local cops ran just outside the base. Not sure how it works, but they started blasting their ship's radar during the speed traps & fried the cops' radar. Worked for awhile until the cops figured it out and complained to the Navy. That ended it, but they sure enjoyed the shit out of their payback while it lasted. I want one of those...
btw, you forgot the Gaz option. ![]() |

In the HAWK system we called it the HPI, High Powered Illuminator. The HPI also had a TAS Camera, Tracking Adjunct Sensor. We could get a visual lock on just about any target then slave the HPI to the TAS, turn the HPI transmitter on and blast it with a thousand plus Watts of radiation. We could literally cook birds out of the sky with it. And yes, such a system would to a number on any traffic radar it locked on to.

I have a detector for driving long trips. I also speed up after cresting a hill and seeing the length or the highway to the next hill, center clear -right shoulder clear- speed up watching oncoming for a patrol car. Let off the gas and coast to the next crest. Repeat. Knowing how radar works and drive to my advantage. On one hand it's speeding on the other hand I'm a very alert driver. I also take my medicine if I get stopped.

yup - doesn't happen often but I do find it interesting how there is a difference in attitude between traffic cops for large depts and the smaller departments who just happen to be running traffic. I think the "traffic cops" would write their mother a ticket

He said he thought I was running from him so he gave me a ticket. I just said thank you, but remember thinking I was already a half county ahead of him, if I was running from him, then why did I stop? |

Yeah I got nailed by a Denver traffic cop a while back - 31-20 I didn't see the change becauseI was too busy focusing on the dark colored vehicle with the door slightly ajar parked on the side of the road - it was him with a LIDAR when I finally figured it out waaay too late Wasn't in uniform - just gimmie my ticket - but damn you would've thought I had just ran over a dozen kindergartners with his attitude |

Could I yes? Do I? No...it's not simply worth the effort. Could I build a system to overload both radar and laser? Yes I have the technical knowledge to do so. The simple reality is that you don't gain as much by doing so as you might think.
There are other ways to detect a car outside of radar, laser that are legally permissible. One is pacing. Don't pay attention and have a cop follow behind you and all the jamming in the world won't save you. Two is aerial observation. They can have a plan fly above you to pace you. All the tech in the world won't stop that. Finally the cop can visually estimate your speed. That is legally permissible in most jurisdictions and your active countermeasures won't do shit against it. Detectors can have some value, but are best against radar and not so hot against laser. Understand outside of school zones I always speed, I laugh hat how much people are pussies who refuse to pass a cop on the highway. If the cop isn't flashing his lights to slow traffic for some issue I have no problem going 5-7MPH over the speed limit to pass them. Could they pull me over? Sure but it's not generally worth their effort. That's part of the key to avoid being the big target(and don't act guilty). Heh make the cop want to pull over someone else more. But one other key piece of advice, don't be a dick. You probably can't talk yourself out of a ticket...but you sure as hell can talk yourself into one!

![]() yes I am aware of all of the above - Pacing is rare in the city and arial is almost exclusively a BFE tactic....RADAR jammers are illegal federally and carry some stiff penalties - LIDAR jammers used in states that prohibit them a generally less severe but could still land you in the county pokey for a few days. I'm really just curious who uses them if anyone... |
