Anyone live in southern Colorado (Colorado Springs, Pueblo area)?

Have some friends who may be move that way towards the end of the year.

They don't know much about the area...and neither do I. Do people live in this area...or is it like Area 51 and the Indian Ocean, people go, but never return.

For my own curiosity, is anyone on this forum from that area? Do you like it....other than being in Bronco country?

Before moving to a different place I would suggest your friends take the time to research it.

It's one of those, he transfers or doesn't have a job.

He found out about it the end of last week. I just got off the phone with him...they have no clue when they have to leave yet.

It's desolate.

Hot and windy.

We are looking to buy some land west of Pueblo to put a house on. Close to the mountains but with a lot of acreage to roam.

Property tax is awesome, too. It pisses me off when I look at their rates compared to ours in Kansas. We are getting raped.

So what is there to do in Pueblo?

You said you are near mountains..but any bodies of water? Tourist attractions?

I'm intrigued by this area.

The picture you posted may be part of the Lake Pueblo State Park, which is one of the most heavily used parks in the state's system. I haven't been there, but it's popular.

There's not much to do in Pueblo. If you go any direction but west, you're going through flat rangeland. There are some very attractive areas west and southwest of Pueblo. And if you go south I think you're only about three hours from Santa Fe, which is a very interesting place. Maybe four hours.

Everything is west or north (of Pueblo), but it is fairly close. Salida is a little over an hour, Canon City is right down the road.

Royal Gorge, white water rafting, zip line, Pikes Peak is right up the road along with a bunch of scenery.

Denver is only 1 1/2 hours down the road from Pueblo, too. Pueblo already has the big city stuff, though.

We have not purchased any land yet, just looking. I live in SW Kansas, so I can be happy just about anywhere, especially if it's a second home.

I'm just curious about other parts out there. All I hear about is Denver and Boulder. It's as if the southern half of the state doesn't exist.

This. Springs is better than Pueblo.

Colorado Springs in a short summary: nice scenery, big military presence, very conservative politically. If you live in the springs, you for the most part live in a suburban type place.

Pueblo in a short summary: blue collar, cheap cost of living, large old-time Hispanic presence (i.e., not immigrants). If you live in Pueblo, you can get a nice cabin in beautiful scenery less than an hour away.
