The State of ChiefsPlanet Broadband
I just had to renew my internet contract with CenturyLink this week. While I'm irritated that their price went up, I'm now up to 80 Mbps, which I can't complain about. (That said, I hardly know why I need more than about 10 Mbps for what I do, but that's beside the point.)
So just for fun, here's a poll about broadband internet. |

I thought about trying to add price to this somehow, but it's hard to make it meaningful. But for what it's worth, I'm now paying $55/month for 80Mbps.

Other than for dick-waving contests online (like this one), what is the need for 1,000,000 Mbps internet speed? I've got the free Google Fiber 5 Mbps and can stream 2 TVs and do stuff on the computer at the same time with minimal issues.

For what it's worth, though, 5 Mbps isn't enough for a full 1080p stream, let alone two of them. You might be able to get a couple 720p streams to be mostly stable. The difference between 20 and 1000 isn't huge for most people, but the difference between 5 and 20 could be (especially if you start streaming in 4K, which takes 13 or so for one stream). |

I have a second internet connection of the free Google Fiber at my own home, and it seems plenty of fast. I tested it the other day and it successfully streamed 4 different windows of 720p video on Youtube.

You have very few devices going and I'm guessing no 4k or 1080?

60Mbps here. Fiber to the home and I live in the country. Rural telephone co-ops are cool.

Only thing I would say is that they’ll probably deploy aerial on the utility poles. Our telco buried everything. I’ve had a grand total of 30 seconds of internet downtime in 2 years and that was when they had to replace a card in my NID because the phone line wasn’t working.
