Chiefs trying to trade Justin Houston
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Chiefs talking to teams about trading OLB Justin Houston.
We doubt they're successful. Houston turned 30 last month and carries an exorbitant $21.1 million cap hit. If the Chiefs don't find a trade partner, they're fully expected to release Houston, especially with Dee Ford likely coming back on either a big-money deal or the franchise tag. Houston's play has slipped in recent years, but he can be an effective sub-package rusher off the edge https://www.rotoworld.com/football/n...as-city-chiefs https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/n...carr-and-more/ https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2019/...justin-houston |

Yup. If he's not traded he'll be cut. This is where the extra money will come from to sign Earl or Landon.

It's really in a teams best interest to trade for him if they want him. It guarantees they get him, his contract wouldn't be guaranteed so you could move on from him at any time and the cap hit for them won't be the 21 million number. Am I wrong?

15.6 is hard to accept, but some team might with all the top end edge rushers likely coming off the market. |

Indy is a no brainer destination IMO.
Ample cap space, Ballard knows us, trying to contend. But I wouldn’t send him to Indy for peanuts. |

Although they may not trade away a 3rd since they don't have a 1st or 2nd rd pick. But then again they're in a win now mode with a up n coming QB and stout D. Nothing would be more "Chiefs" than to see Houston come into Arrowhead and destroy our chances at a SB.

I’m sure if Veach and Andy have it their way he goes to the NFC with LA, SF, or whoever.
But Indy has the most cap room to take on his contract. They’d need to blow KC away to send him there though probably. |

maybe if we eat a couple of million of that salary, maybe we can get a resonable draft pick.

No one player is worth 20 mil except the QB. No one player affects the game as much. Houston should be open to a pay cut to stay.
Does he not want a SB? I guess not. Does EB? He won't take one either most likely. They both made a ton and care about else. How many at NE make 20 mil? None.

He had 2 sacks, 2 tackle for losses, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup against Indy.

He's one guy. We won't miss him. Our super pass rush led us to the worst defense in the league. You can scheme to create pressure and sacks. Umless you are Bob Sutton.
