As opposed to last years group?

The Chargers try so hard to be relevant and anyone's rival. They're just so meh that nobody cares about them.

In reality, even if he's 10 yards behind the secondary, all Phyllis is going to see is a wall of red shoving his linemen back into his face.

I mean, he's not wrong. They are still going to get smoked and give up plays in the passing game.

Of course you think that you pessimistic ****.

Tyrann, Thornhill, Fuller, Breeland, and Ward is MUCH better than what we had last year.

Who on that list is a lockdown corner. You're going to say Fuller can be but the stats don't back it yet. Then you will counter with blah blah "Sutton." And I will counter with Spags defenses, especially recently, still also give up yards in the passing game.

The defense will be near elite at stopping the run/rushing the passer. The weakness still is coverage. The fact that you're hanging you hat on Ward as a counter argument who has such a small sample size he could end up being a fools gold Marcus Cooper is enough of a flag to tell me that group needs work.

I’m of the opinion that they aren’t done at corner or TE, hence why they kept Clark’s first year cap hit low despite having plenty of space.

Either way, Breeland/Fuller/Ward is still better than what we had at this point last year or going into the season.

And yes, I think Fuller can be a shutdown corner, and that part about the stats “not backing it up” might be true for 2018, but not for 2017. This year he’s going to have better coaching, scheme, and he’s in a contract year. I fully expect something closer to 2017 and maybe even a career year.

PFF had Nelson rated higher than Breeland. Their salaries appear to support that notion.

I defended Nelson his entire career here....

Anybody who doesn’t think Breeland is better than Nelson is ****ing clueless. What about Breeland’s PFF grade the last several weeks of the season when he was healthy and comfortable in the Packers defense in which he had no TC to do so?

We better hope not. The only reason teams didn't pick on Nelson is because the rest of our secondary was so bad.

I’d say he’s more wrong than right. Our Safety position is SUPERIOR to what it was last year. Mathieu and Thornhill are going to knock some ****ing skulls. I also think Breeland, Fuller and Ward as a CB’s will be improved over last year. I think the 4-3 helps that CB position.

In short, here’s hoping Allen tears his ACL in OTA’s. **** him.

The safety position is a huge deal, I’m telling ya. Last year we played so much man coverage with no safeties over top that had any range. Our CBs weren’t that good and they didn’t have good protection behind them. That has changed now.

If Thornhill is the real deal, that’s one of the best safety duos in the league. I want another corner if for no other reason than depth, but this secondary is much better. I think outsiders lump Eric Berry into our group of the last two years when he wasn’t actually there. Our safeties were ass.

The Chiefs will sweep the Chargers this year. Take it to the bank.
