What's your opinion on bowl opt outs?

Bowl season used to be a good time to watch NFL prospects for the upcoming draft.

Now it seems like any player with NFL prospects doesn't even play, opting out to avoid the risk of an injury.

Do you agree with this practice? It's now commonplace and accepted.

One aspect that isn't publicized enough is an NFL prospect bailing on their teammates. Imagine going through the program for four, five years, being a senior and then your best player bails. You want to finish your college career with a win.

I know college football coaches are scumbags and these colleges make a killing off these players but it just doesn't seem right to me.

These players chose to play a team sport. They decide to be an individual when it's convenient for them. Why bail at the bowl game? Why don't they put four games of tape on film and bail then? If the NFL and their bank account is what matters, what's the purpose of playing the whole regular season and getting an injury?

Jake Butt is proof that it’s a smart call.

It’s ruined the bowl season for me though. I barely watch any bowls anymore.

I do wonder how long it will be before a top prospect sits out a playoff game.

I also wonder if we'll see a running back rush for 800 yards in four games and then say I'm out. I'm resting my body for the NFL.

I also wonder if we'll see a junior with enough good film on tape sit out the whole season. I guess it already happened with Penei Sewell and Micah Parsons but that was in a COVID year, so I don't know it counts.

I understand it but I hate it.

And I hate the reasoning people use. "The bowl games don't matter." Well, technically, no collegiate game matters for a pro career once the player is confirmed to be a draft pick. So if they know by Week 8, they should opt out for the remainder of the year. If people are being logically consistent.

Any remaining game risks an injury that could derail the career. Pickett should have opted out of the ACC Championship Game as well if he was worried about his pro career. An ACC Championship means nothing to his pro career.

Well, none of the college games mean anything to a player with a NFL future. If you are going to support opting out for bowl games, no one should be upset someday if a player opts during the playoffs or halfway through the season.

Futures is relative though.

The prospects that log 8-10 years of NFL service time are the exceptional ones.

Most of the prospects fall in the 2-4 year career range and you never hear from them again.

It's just too bad that advisors and agents are controlling them instead of letting them be kids.

Imagine not wanting to play a football game? Football games are the fun part of the sport. They practice so much. Football games are finite.

It just seems like a screwed up world when a kid choses not to play in a football game because of the advice of an agent.

I think it's sad players declare for the draft instead of playing w their teammates in a howl game.. But this is just how sports are now, it's mostly about money.

It’s a job….why wouldn’t money be a factor? Or is that only okay when it comes to coaches, colleges and networks?

I respect their decision. Yes it is a job. I'm cool w whatever they decide to do.

I'm just saying playing one game with guys you went to war with for years, personally, I wouldn't trade that for the world.

That's because the coaches, administrators, and schools get a payout if they win.

They are glorified exhibitions aside from the CFP. They have no impact on standings or championships. If players want to play in them, great. If they don't, that's fine, too.

But the people who call the players entitled for not wanting to risk their future in a game in which they get paid nothing are completely wrong.

Badie is probably a day 3 pick and you're anything but a lock to make a roster at that point. He would be insane to turn down a great opportunity to impress teams.
