Chiefs When were you “sold” that this team could make it back to the Super Bowl?

I always wondered what the Super Bowl bye week might feel like growing up. Now we all have had 3 over the last 4 years. In the 2019 season I was such a mess of nerves and was going crazy with the wait. The next year, I was having health problems and was a new Dad, which made that whole playoff run and COVID year a blur.

This year, I’m just trying to bask in the glow - and that’s exactly what this thread is. When was the moment you were sold that this team could go all the way? Check my spoiler’d answer below.

If we're talking generally the Mahomes era, you just had to watch Mahomes early in the 2018 season to know we'd have many opportunities at it. He's the best player to ever play the game and it was obvious pretty quickly.

If we're talking about this season, I'd say as soon as last season ended. Any Mahomes team has a chance.

Mahomes is a generational talent, we will always have a shot.

Ever since he was named the starter and I saw those first couple of games, I knew shit was about to get real for the long term.

My dad, close to 80 years old, has never been a big Football fan, but after I explained to him the historic implications of what we are witnessing as a fanbase, and catered to his intellectual side with the complexities and beauty of Football as a whole, even he is watching now. It's really cool.

When we were acknowledging that this was going to be a transitional year deep into the offseason, I told Twisted make no mistake about it, this team could still be a SB contender regardless.

Always believed it was a possibility, but still unreal that they've actually pulled it off.

The draft sold me in a big way. It just felt like Veach took all the draft capital pulled another coup to immediately address our biggest concerns after dropping the game to the Bengals last year. It made me think we were actually going to be a much deeper - and much more financially comfortable team after trading Tyreek.

It's fun to think of the rookies who were on the field thanks to the Tyreek trade last year and how they all did their part to get us the win we couldn't last year.

For the record, I was in favor of the Tyreek trade and completely understood it. I just initially figured this team would take a step back as it retooled, and there was no shame in that whatsoever.

After the draft, I felt like we had a really solid group and grew more optimistic.

My concerns were always around a young secondary and a new offense.

The latter concerns disappeared in week 1. The former concerns were gone in week 2 when Watson’s INT flipped the field and game.

Mahomes though has been the most impressive part of it all. He had an uneven performance last year and I really figured with all new WRs it would take time to gel. The fact that he’s gonna be a runaway MVP winner in a few days is just so amazing. Easily his best season in my eyes.

I know Chiefs fans got really upset with some of Tyreek's comments in the offseason -- but you know those were rocket fuel for Patrick as he prepared for this season. He just came out with a mission from the get-go.

Not sure if there was a larger singular moment in the season than the Watson Pick 6. In an alternate reality, I wonder how the season shifts if the Chargers take that game in Kansas City as a statement win to start the year.

While I came into the year liking our chances with Patrick and Andy as I always do, the game that made me believe this year’s team was going back to another Super Bowl was our Super Bowl 55 rematch. I couldn’t take another loss to that spygate asshole, I couldn’t take a parting shot that would give Brady a winning record against Patrick forever. We had just lost a really bad loss to the Colts, and Tampa was talking a lot of trash about our offense before the game. To see Assassin Patrick and the team come out laser focused on the same field and with the same jerseys as the Super Bowl loss and deliver an ass kicking from play 1 was like watching an exorcism on the field. It made me believe Burrow had the same game Patrick coming in the playoffs. What was that moment for you all?
