What would you do if you were Eric Bieniemy
OK - So most here want EB to get a HC gig so we can get a couple 3rd round compensatory picks. I get that. Hell I'm right with you.
But.. Thats not going to happen. Frankly I'm a little bothered by it. I mean coaches with lesser resumes get jobs every year but whatever. It is what it is. So put the shoe on the other foot. If you were AB, would you make a lateral move to be a OC with the Commanders or Titans which would allow you to step out of the shadow of Reid and Mahomes, or do you just say **** it and stay where you are and keep working with Mahomes and Reid. I mean there are worse jobs right? I'm to the point now where I'm fine with him staying in KC. Give him a multi-year contract. Show the league we actually do want him. What's the down side? Nagy remains the QB coach? I think its time we step up and stand with EB. What say you? |

Pete Carmichael with the Saints was in a similar situation to EB.
He was the OC under Sean Payton from 2009 through the duration of Payton/Brees’ tenure in New Orleans and never was able to get a HC job elsewhere (and was ultimately bypassed for the Saints HC job when Payton left). It seems like Carmichael made a career decision after multiple unsuccessful HC interviews that he would accept his career fate by remaining an OC with the Saints. EB has to either accept that similar fate if he decides to stay in KC or if he really wants to be a HC then he has to leave and become an OC elsewhere. And since race has been a narrative, it’s worth mentioning that Carmichael is white. |

If they were going to give EB a multi-year contract, they wouldn't have given him a 1-year deal last year.
He's never going to be a HC in the NFL. His best shot at distinguishing himself would be to go somewhere else and be a successful OC without Andy. |

If I'm EB I take an OC job that has a more likely path to a HC position
If I'm AB I cum back |

Look closely at the OP and you'll see that he's making fun of a typo...

Yep - I totally agree with you. He's in an unfortunate position at this point. He'll need to do it somewhere else to get his shot. Sad but true for EB

This 100%. At this point it is clear that there is something keeping him from getting hired. I imagine teams would overlook that if he proves himself as an OC on another team. This will also dispel the rumors that Andy runs the offense and not him.

I'd make the lateral move. I'd ensure whoever hires me will get the QB I can work with, and I ram it up the league's pooper for the next three years and get my veritable pick of the litter among the available HC jobs.
Edit: If no one hires me, I go get the best college gig I can and destroy college football for about four-five years. Then I'd reassess. |
