Tech question: Slow loading websites
I have a several, but not all, websites that load very slowly - and it is sort of predictable.
For instance, being a sports fan, I have bookmarks for both ESPN.com and CBSsports.com. CBSsports will load in under a second. Always ESPN can take 30 seconds to load. It varies in time but is always noticeable. Also, when people here on CP post videos, some of them take several seconds to load. I scroll the thread and wonder why so and so posted an empty post and a few seconds later a youtube or other video appears. I am on a MacBook Pro, M1 chip and using Safari with DuckDuckGo as the search engine. The only extensions I have on Safari are the DuckDuckGo ones. OS and softwares are up to date. I sporadically run AVG virus checks which show no malware. Why is this happening and can it be corrected? Thankyou in advance. |

Check out other browsers like Chrome and Firefox to see if the same websites are slow to load. If that's the case it could be your DNS, but if they load up fine for you it's likely your DuckDuckGo extension that's causing issues, I'm not sure what DuckDuckGo is but when you start messing around with extensions it adds a middle man into the equation that can F up normal operation.

I'd guess his issue is DNS, like Clay. |

I tried Chrome, and the issue was the same. Although today is not a 30 second delay day, more like 3 or 4 seconds.
I changed the DNS to 1.1.1.1 per the link provided and rebooted. It SEEMS the same, but as I said, todays lags are not so long. If feels like CBS loads in under a second and ESPN loads in 2 seconds. We'll see how it goes.

Are you using a dedicated router/internet from a local ISP or are you using a hotspot for your regular internet? You're supposed to be building a table automatically with every connection that makes it quicker for you in subsequent times to reach the destination by mapping the best path to get there. Sounds like that functionality isn't working as intended and the connections aren't speeding up after the first at all.

T-Mobile 5G Internet Modem wired to eero6 mesh router. Download speeds are 150+, 40 upload
My connection experience is good and responsive, no buffering while streaming. Browser is very responsive for a lot of sites, just not all.

Definitely sounds like a DNS issue to me.

That was one issue I had with T-Mobile internet... even when speed was great, latency sometimes sucked. Might also try wiring into it just to rule out your own router.

Try flushing your DNS cache and try again https://mackeeper.com/blog/flush-dns-cache-on-mac/ (don't mind the MacKeeper software, just the instructions) see if that makes a difference. Also can you try to free hand the URL and type it in fresh instead of using the bookmark, wanting to make sure you're bookmarking to just the flat out www.espn.com and not some www.espn.com/homepage.aspn?blahblahblah

I rebooted. Initially ESPN took a couple seconds to load, BUT i think it is getting faster each time I try it. Hopefully things will improve. I'll report back after a day or two. Thanks.
