Couch's What-I-Want Mock:
So I like about 1/3rd of the guys in this year's draft at this point lol and it's really hard for me to nail down who I actually want the Chiefs to pick, but I'd say the below "options mock" is about as close as I can pin it down. Note that I'm not certain about the draft order, especially in later rounds.
Draft: 31. Hyatt or Johnston, or Murphy, McDonald, or Breese or Wright WR/DL/OT [2nd Rd] White, Foskey, Adebaware, Tuipuloto, or Smith, Benton DL [*Trade Up using 2024 2nd or 3rd + CEH] 95. Dexter, Roy, or Harrison or Freeland or one of the following WRs DL/OL/WR 122. [*Trade #122 + 2024 4th + MVS for WR D Hopkins] or Whoever's left from: Perry, Mingo, Scott, Mims, Rice, Palmer, Ford-Wheaton, Dell, Jarrett WR 134. Morris or Nelson OT 166. Diaby, Young, Fehoko, Coburn or Daniels, Haggard DL/OL 178. Mitchell, Tucker, Johnson, or McKintosh RB 217. Luepke = "My Guy 2023" FB 249. Brooks, Stills, Clark, or Incoom DL 250. Scott, Merriweather, Taylor, Thomas V, Ford, or Mitchell DB PFAs: Nichols RB S Davis or M Landers WR C Murphy DE Weapons: Kelce + Hopkins Toney Hyatt Moore James Watson Ross Ross Davis + Pachecco Mitchell Nichols + Luepke Pass Rush: Karlaftis, Diaby, Kaindoh Jones, Brooks, Wharton Dexter, Omenihu, Nandi White, Danna, Murphy What do you guys think? Who would you take? Last edited by Couch-Potato; 04-19-2023 at 04:55 AM.. |

I'm operating under the assumption that Veach has done a great job of finding depth in the offseason, and we're looking to add difference makers to the WR and DL to inflict Max Pain on the rest of the league and cement our superiority for years to come. Not too mention secure young talents at premium positions to ensure we remain cap flexible. I'm especially happy with the current state of the LB and DB rooms, and don't feel there's much required there. Adding 1 or 2 guys to compete at RT and depth OL further solidifies the trenches. We already have 4 TEs on the roster and one of them is The GOAT so although I like La Porta and Whyle I'm going to let other team's swing on this year's hot TE market and drive down talents elsewhere to our Chiefs. I'm also banking on fans favoring this year's WR class more than the actual league, as well as the recent trend of RBs (especially smaller ones) going later in the draft.
By moving MVS, Hopkins contract becomes much more palatable and we can renegotiate potentially on a healthy 3 year deal if that's what he wants as long as it's within the same $15m-$20m range. MVS contract is significantly lower than Hopkin's and he's a SB champion which gives AZ something their fans can accept. Note that Hopkins would be the ONLY weapon we'd be spending any real $ on outside of Kelce, and I'd build the upside in his contract around incentives he's likely to earn in a full season with Pat Mahomes throwing him the ball. I Love the diversity of talent on offense. Kelce (GOAT), Hopkins (Deep), Toney (X-Factor), Hyatt (Speed), and Moore (Trusted Slot) all fill different roles. then you have Pachecco (speed rusher), K Mitchell (pass catching RB), Nichols (Thicker - Dual-threat RB), and Luepke (HB Pass-Blocking, Goal-line, & Wheel Route Threat) is a fun new weapon for Andy to scheme into the offense. I like the depth at the bottom of the WR room, James can push Moore and fast-Ross can push James. Likewise, tall-Ross and S Davis can push Watson for targets, and all three of those younger taller WRs might learn a thing or two about playing on the outside from D Hopkins. I would absolutely love to see tall-Ross thrive and become our #5 WR! I think we'll be just within reach to stand pat at #63 and get one of the DL I mentioned above, or someone similar, but I'd love to see Veach and Andy move up for "their guy" and get a premium player! I'm more inclined to seek out a DE than a NT who's not likely to play as many downs, but I'd love to get a beast next to C Jones that requires double teams and a legit pass rusher opposite of Karlaftis. Throw in a speedy pass rushing specialist like Diaby or Young (TEN) to mix in and I think we have all we need to continue to compete for a top 5 pass rush for years to come. Thrive. That's a lot of DEs, sheesh.
My lone major knock is that I see no way that Arizona would trade D-Hop just to save 300k by taking on MVS. Doesn't seem like a smart move for them. I mean yeah, anything that could land us D-Hop and Hyatt would have me doing backflips but its probably not likely. I was really high on Wanya Morris, and I'm still not entirely down on him, but alot came out about academic issues towards the end here which has me kind of reserved at this point. His lack of growth the past few seasons makes me wonder what the real reason is. It would make me worried if we needed to rely on him in 2023. |

I can't think of any better way to maximize our offensive potential than Hopkins + Hyatt, would be pretty incredible! Impractical? Yes! But that's why it's my "What-I-Want" draft. I'm hoping one of the late Rd DL is versatile enough to play disruptive pass rushing DT. All of the following Jones, Omenihu, Karlaftis, White, Brooks, and Diaby might be flexible enough for Spags to move round the D-line and keep our opponents on their toes! But I'm open to taking OL depth at 166. as well. Last edited by Couch-Potato; 04-17-2023 at 09:02 AM.. |

Seriously. Wright, Foskey, Perry, Daniels, and Stills are among my favorites at their respective positions. Palmer is a pure MVS type but he would be a cheap MVS. Diaby could be a sneaky good Omenihu type of DE. Mitchell is small but he's really electric. I'm going to give you your hard-on for Luepke, and he'd fit pretty well here. I'm not super high on Scott but later than him being projected in the 4th is cool with me. |
