The Early Years Tournament: Round 1, Heat 20.
Sorry I'm slow on these. Life has been busy the last couple of months.
We have a couple of wins over modest NFC teams to choose from in this heat. 2019 - Week 16 - W 26-3 over CHI https://www.pro-football-reference.c...1912220chi.htm Chiefs 10-4 / Bears 7-7 One of the most interesting aspects of this game was that the announcers mentioned the Bears' "double-doink" miss a few years earlier, and then on the next extra point by Butker, he double-doinked it. What are the odds of that? (In his defense, he also made a 56-yard field goal.) Other than that, I think this might have been the game where Patrick Mahomes II counted on his fingers after a score, given that he was playing the team that double-crossed him (to his benefit) during the draft. On the field, this game was a nice dismantling with the Chiefs going up by 17 before the other team and their franchise quarterback could put up any points. Jones, Clark, and Ragland got sacks, and Patrick was the best quarterback on the field, cruising to 251 yards passing and 2 TDs, plus another TD rushing. Damien Williams was our yardage leader with 92. 2021 - Week 6 - W 31-13 over WAS https://www.pro-football-reference.c...2110170was.htm Chiefs 3-2 / Football Team 2-3 Check out the 0:55 mark in the highlights. Mahomes slings a pass to Tyreek and you can see six opponents in the frame and no Chiefs except Tyreek. Completed pass, of course. And then the next play he arcs a beauty up to Jody Fortson. Then go to 2:20 and watch the pass to Hardman. And then watch the backhand flip at 10:39. No one can compete with passes like that. However, the Football Team fought hard, and the game was unusual in certain respects. Mahomes had 2 interceptions (one a classic Tyreek tip drill and the other probably the weirdest interception of his career on a fumbled snap at 7:25 of the highlights) and was sacked three times, while the opposing QB (Heinecke) yielded no sacks and one interception, a brilliant nab by Tershawn Wharton while he was being double-teamed. Hardman had a good day receiving and returning punts, but also coughed up a fumble. Danna and Sneed combined for a nice forced fumble and recovery, though. The Chiefs actually trailed 10-13 at halftime before blowing out the Football Team with 21 unanswered points in the second half. Mahomes threw for a beautiful 397 yards, and Kelce was the leading yardage guy with 99, though the highlights show that Darrel Williams and Tyreek masterfully manufactured yards as well. |

I chose the Washington game. Just like against Jacksonville they had to overcome stupid turnovers to get the win. It's good to see them gut it out when they do dumb shit.

I picked the Washington game. It's fun to watch Mahomes grind away, keep everybody involved in the offense and then finally break through.
Although at the time it's not as fun. |

I also went with the Washington game, even though there were more things that went wrong. The Bears game was kind of hard to summarize, because it just seemed like a non-eventful beatdown other than the Mahomes/Trubisky angle.
The Washington game was probably frustrating in real time given the weird interceptions, but it had a lot of plays that make a fan giggle with glee. It was more of an emotional roller coaster. I suspect I enjoy it more now than I did then.

Yeah, that Bears game was a snoozefest. The only notable things from it were a double doink missed XP, Damien Williams’ TD celly dance at 6:18 and Mahomes counting to ten on his hands (which I didn’t even see in the highlights). It was just a ho hum December beatdown on the way to the Super Bowl. It’s awesome at the time but boring after the fact.
Even aesthetically speaking it was very drab. It looks dark and cold; whereas, the Commanders game looked bright, sunny, and warm. The Commanders game was frustrating as all hell. Watching Mahomes carve up the defense only to have an annoying Hill drop-into-INT, Hardman fumble, etc. There were some really cool plays by Mahomes, like the underhanded flip to Kelce, and legitimately the worst INT Mahomes’ has thrown to this day. I truly don’t know wtf he was thinking there lol They were up on us 13-10 late into the 3rd quarter and we just bust it open from there, scoring 3 TDs in the 4th/latter half of the 3rd. I suppose I’d say the Washington game would be my choice but I don’t think either will make it out of next round. |

Even though the Washington game had more dynamic plays, it was hard watching all of those first-half turnovers. I went with the Chicago game.
