Life A new school is opening in our area, should I be concerned??

My son is in the 3rd grade and goes to an academy school k-8th. This is his first year at the school and he has finally settled in and made friends, the first week was tough on him… they are now opening a new elementary school that should be open by next year a few blocks from my house. Will my son be forced to go to this new school? I’m devastated if this is the case as my son has already been in and out of 3 different schools through elementary due to us moving a lot. We finally just bought our home and settled down and now this happens. I told my son I would home school him before I’d have him go to his 4th school in 5 years, it’s just not healthy for a young kid to have to do that.

What are my options? Will by son be grandfathered in at his current school?

I probably can't comment because I suspect every school district has different policies. Here in Colorado I know that many districts will let you move your child to a different school as long as they have room and you provide transportation.

If it's any comfort, I'd attended 7 schools by the time I finished 4th grade, and I always found it exciting to switch schools.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Yeah I could be asking the wrong demographic here but weaving through the assholes I always appreciate the responses I get here, I mean shit, this place helped me fix my garbage disposal a few weeks ago. I’m a young dad, 31, I know I’ll get my own dads type of responses which I heard my whole life which consisted of the typical suck it up and deal with it, type shit, but I love my kid and if I can make his life easier, and allow him to keep the relationships he’s built, I’m damn well gonna do that. I tell my wife all the time, keep my dick hard, not my life, same shit, just want to make my kids life as easy as it can be so he can be successful, **** all that macho deal with it BS. (No offense to you old timers lol).

If you want you kids to succeed let them fail, coping skills are what most kids lack theses days .

It has more to do with the fact that you want to make your kids life as easy as possible, removing every ones of life’s obstacles, difficulties, etc.. helicopter and bulldozer parenting while at first sounds like you doing what’s best for them isn’t always the case . Now every situation/kid will be different and there is t really one size fits all and it depends and what you want for your kid . Just from experience with my kids I wish I would have done a few things differently, my wife and I have different philosophies and I think it turned out pretty good overall but she still is having a hard time cutting the cord which I think is stunnting their growth as adults.
