Is there a reason regular season referring can’t be like the post season?
We know that the post season is officiated different with less ref involvement and is generally received much better by fans and players. So why is this not done in the regular season? Is it just because there are more refs active leading to more disparity in calls? Directives from the league office to enforce more (or conversely enforce less in the playoffs)? Maybe refs are scrutinized more in the regular season and feel they have to make more calls?

I’m really curious the actual “why” the officiating is so different in the post season. Seems like most would prefer it this way all season long.

I loved how the playoff games were officiated, and even last night with a few tough calls against us I wasn't going to blame them.

Yeah, I don't get it. I can certainly complain about a few things last night, as anyone can on subjective calls or non-calls, but I really liked the referees not taking over the game at any point, and we saw little or no arguing by the coaches either.

I think the big thing is they ref everything tight early so then players learn how to play disciplined and then they can swallow their whistles and the players won’t be pushing the limits.

It’s dumb as shit and it doesn’t happen but I think that’s their approach

For the most part the officiating last night was great. With the exception of the damn Line Judge, who kept spotting the ball a yard short of our 1st downs. The Line Judge had a very bad night.

Playoff football is so much more enjoyable, than the shit ass flag fest regular season. I only want penalties on the most obvious penalties and on things that would change the play. Backside hold on a run to the outside? No penalty. Center is pulling the DT out of a gap as the RB is running inside? Penalty.

I think there are a few reasons, the best officials work playoff games, they also usually go with the let players play stand point.

That works when both the teams are good so it's decided on the field. If you called every game that way you'd very rarely ever seen an upset and the top teams would almost always win...and of course most fans love upsets.
