The Netflix Favre Doc is out
They really don't hold back all that much, they have people from every level of his career back to high school talking about what a pile of shit the guy was...

He was one of the greatest QBs to ever play. And he was maybe the most exciting QB to watch for a long time. The last of the OG QBs. In many ways, he was Mahomes before Mahomes.

He was way too reckless to be compared with Mahomes. Far too often his poor decisions cost his team games, especially in the playoffs.

Yeah, I don't see much of Favre in Mahomes. Favre was dumber than a box of ball hairs, and it showed far too often on the field, IMO. Pat is very cerebral, and that really shows on the field a well.

About the only thing that they have in common is a strong arm and a willingness to use it. Mahomes also knows when to throw and when to not throw it more often than not.

Prime Favre won 3 straight MVPs, threw 35 TDs/season (led the league all 3 seasons) and had a damn good INT% (routinely in the top 10). That's just not "dumber than a box of ball hairs" at all. That's a HoF resume by the time he was 30 years old. If he just flat retires after the Broncos SB, the narrative of him as a dipshit gunslinger just doesn't form. He would be on the short list of Rushmore candidates. We often excuse Mahomes for 'trying to do too much' when things around him aren't working. And we won't give Favre ANY of that same latitude when we saw what he was capable of doing in his prime when he had good pieces and a good staff around him? Time really hasn't been fair to Brett Favre, IMO.

Before Brady and Manning came along, a lot of people had Favre in their top 5 QB of all time.
Montana Elway Marino Favre Bradshaw I think it usually went something like that.

Mahomes reminded of Favre some in 2018. But I’m talking about young run all over the place before you throw it Favre. I was surprised nobody made the comparison that year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

From about 32 and beyond, he started writing checks his ass couldn't cash anymore. Some of that was a decline in physical skills, some of that was just that the league caught up to the more high-flying passing games a bit. But he 'only' led the league in INTs once before he turned 34. And in his playoff career prior to that late stage Favre era, most of what he did in the playoffs was just lose to better teams. I mean it's not like the Packers were hot shit around him. Everyone loves to glaze Reggie White but the guy didn't even make it to GB until he was 32. He was still good, but he wasn't THE Reggie White at that point; more of a good story than an amazing player. In the 93, 94 and 95 seasons he lost to the Cowbooys in the midst of their Dynasty. It happens. He was a young QB in someone else's story. 96 season they won the title. 97 they lost to the cheating Donks and it's hard to say his 'recklessness' was a reason why. 98 they lost to the 49ers on that goddamn miracle T.O. catch as time expired. Can't really kill him for his DC not knowing how to defend a go up the !@#$ing seam... Then Homlgren left, got replaced with the dipshit that was Ray Rhodes, and Favre really lost a couple years of his prime. 2001 came and he lost to the Greatest Show on Turf Rams -- they were just a better team than GB. I mean, he was shattered ass in that game, but that's when I think we started to see the desperation start to sneak in. That was when things go pretty tough for him in the post-season and I think he started trying to do too much. But I do think there's a bit of revisionism when it comes to 'Brett Favre' whereby we don't really divide his career as we should. There was the Young/Prime Favre (who played in the era where they'd beat the holy **** out of QBs) who guided an ascending team to a championship squad with a very good coaching staff around him. Then there was the descending Favre back when 32 was pretty damn old for a QB. His team wasn't as good. His coaching staff wasn't as good. He'd been beaten to hell for about a decade at that point. And no, he just flat wasn't as good. But I don't think it's fair to say that was emblematic of his entire career. It was his post-prime years. Those should be viewed on their own.
