The rules are fine as is. If you can't stop a team from scoring a TD, you deserve to lose.

If each team was guaranteed to have a possession, it just creates an unfair advantage for the team getting the ball SECOND since they know what the other team did.

I can see NFL with minor improvement of letting teams bid on where the opposing team starts the possession. E.G one team decides the possession will start on the X hardline such as the 8 yard line and the other gets to choose whether they want the ball or not.

That relatively minor change I'd be fine with but making sure each team has a possession would be dumb and just take suspense out of the game.

The Chiefs should absolutely try to change the rules again this offseason and make the Bills vote on it. If they vote yes this time, well that would be hilarious and we should laugh at them.

I know with Mahomes, we're better off making sure he gets a chance in OT and not leaving it to a coin flip, so I support the rule change going forward.

I happen to like college OT rules but they would never work in the NFL.

Plus the NFLPA would never allow changes that could potentially lead to 5-hour games.

The NFL rule is fine as is.

I hope Clark goes into winter meetings declaring that changing the rule is a terrible idea.

Yep. That's fine for College, but that'd look like a clown show, imo, for the NFL to adapt.

Given that the statistics show that there's a 52-48 advantage for the winner of the flip, I'm not sure what you can do to make it 'fair'. If the first team gets a TD, then the second team knows that it must get a TD to tie. What happens then? Do you just keep giving each team a chance until one team doesn't score?

Everyone is acting as if the winner of the coin flip was absolutely going to get a TD.

Of course the major media, based in NY, is going to whine about it.

It’s hilarious that Buffalo voted against changing the rule a few years ago.

People arguing about both teams getting the ball need to tell me when exactly they expect the game to end.

Take last nights game. Chiefs score a TD. Bills get the ball and score a TD. Now the Chiefs get the ball again and kick a FG. Is it now ok for the game to end or do the Bills have to get the ball AGAIN?

There is some merit to this argument, but flipping a coin to decide a game is hardly a reasonable answer. One thing that could be done to alleviate such concerns would be to implement a rule in overtime that after TDs all teams must attempt 2-point conversions. That would do a lot to stop the threat of an interminable game.

The reason for not doing the "let's play forever" game....

Players DO NOT want the game to go any longer than it has to. Both teams just played an AMAZING, extremely hard fought 60 mins. Do you really think they want to play any longer than necessary? Nope. Don't want to lose? Play some ****ing D. When you play that long, that's when more injuries start to occur, and that's when the Cincinnati Bengals are rooting for 2 more quarters so it takes longer for the winning team to recoup. Cincy already has an extra day of rest on their schedule by playing Sat instead of Sunday. This time of year, that's BIG

Your defense has players. They're the highest paid side of the team for the Bills.

Make a ****ing play, jokers.

This. KC introduced a potential rule change, but it was voted down, and you're right, Buffalo is one of the teams that voted AGAINST it... So there's no crying now.
