Yep. Like I said, I think boundary corners aren't as valuable under the current rules.

Pass rush and versatility is.

The guy we'll pay is Sneed.

Thank you. The modern NFL passing attack corners are more devalued and safeties more important, relative to before.

We still need good cover guys but Veach will find. Every year guys that can play are still sitting there for cheap after the big money goes out

Yep. Outside corners are basically allowed to run alongside WR's, and that's it. If they so much as look at them wrong, the flags come out. What's the point of paying guys huge money to do that?

Pass rushers to speed the play up and hit the QB, versatile safeties and LB'ers that can cover or rush, and confuse the QB so he holds the ball. That's what you need.

Speed up the QB's clock, but slow down his processing. That's your only option on defense in the modern NFL.

Yes. Middle of the field you want guys that take away time and space. I call them erasers.

And versatility is huge. People blame Mahomes but the Bengals defense 2nd half was one of the most brilliant things I have ever seen.

They mixed and matched. Zigged and zagged. Desperate to pull rabbit after rabbit out of the hat, they did it. And it helped that they had almost zero holes. Not super stars but just good players all over the field. Let's emulate that a little.

This, this, a thousand times this.

We've been talking about it for months - scheme versatility and depth are at a premium in this NFL. You simply cannot have weak links in your defense, even if you have top playmakers out there. One or two guys can't shut down an offense anymore. There's just too many WR's on the field at any given time.

It's much more important to be consistently solid than inconsistently stellar.

I agree, that's how he should be used and the opposite for Hughes who we seemed desperate to see matched against people a foot taller than him.

He could be a lockdown potentially, I'm just saying he's much further off that than I think many people believe. He had a good rookie year on limited snaps and then an OK year where some of his, current, limitations were exposed.
