If Bowe Wants Megatron Money

Let's say, as has been rumored, that Bowe is genuinely looking for Megatron money.

Now, in case you've been living under a rock, Megatron got a seven year deal worth $134 million dollars, with $60 million guaranteed. It is the biggest contract in NFL history.

You are Scott Pioli, and you've got 'til July to get him signed to avoid paying him a $9 million franchise tag this year. You probably don't want to tag him for two straight years, as (a.) he's saying he's going hold out until you do sign him, and (b.) Branden Albert will be a free agent next year if you do.

Trading is also an option, but no team in the NFL wanted him for a 1st rounder when you tried to trade him during the draft's first day, if you believe those rumors. No team wanted to burn a 1st on Mike Wallace, either. So you're not getting a first if you try to trade him.

Explain the process by which you try to resolve this issue, all you Piolis out there.

Are you going to give him the contract he wants? Or close?

What is his contract worth to you? How do you intend on getting him down to that?

Are you going to try to trade him? What are you going to trade him for?

I know we're all going to love criticizing Pioli for whatever he does here, but it'd help if you outline what YOU'D do in his shoes.

Because this could potentially be a terrible situation.

I don't think you sign Bowe for more than Vincent Jackson money, which I think is what he's asking for considering circumstances.

Trade him.

5 years 55 million?

That's a steal for Bowe. That's less money than what Tamba Hali makes.

Also, Bowe > Vincent Jackson.

Hines Ward's first 4 seasons were pretty pedestrian.

He didn't even break 700 yards recieving in his those seasons.

Dwayne Bowe has been far more productive, and a playmaker that Ward has never been, in his first 5 seasons.

As I said more than VJax. I just don't believe he'll settle for a cheap deal with complete suck that is throwing him the ball.

You said you don't think the Chiefs can sign Bowe for more than Vincent Jackson money. Jackson's contract is an insult if we can't offer more than that to Bowe.

So yes, we can actually sign Bowe for more than the Jackson deal. And I'm sure Pioli's planning on doing just that.

I doubt he's that stupid, he'll be back... i think he's smart enough, heard enough from other pro's, to understand just how hard it can be to switch teams and maintain the momentum you have going.

He'll take much less i'd really bet, he knows he's #1 here and will get every opportunity to shine, knows the system, players, embraced by the city... there HAS to be a real value put on that by smarter players, i know it would affect my decisions.

The Hali, Flowers, DJ and Charles deals were all good deals for the Chiefs. Way below what the market would pay them in FA. Anyone who thinks its easy to convince athletes and agents to accept anything other than top $ needs to put down the crack pipe.

Pioli may have a spotty record in drafting but resigning the "right" players for below market value they could get somewhere else..........he's killing it.

I would expect no less in the Bowe situation. unless he really wants megatron money abd his agent has convinced him he will get megatron money. If that happens Pioli won;t get shit done. And any club giving Bowe megatron money are fools.

He'll be 28 at the start of the season. After 5 years he's 33. After 8 he's 36. In 10 he's 38 and the chances of him being around then are very slim. Not too many receivers will be productive after 33. Not sure what numbers you are using. First you say 8 then 10. I'm figuring you meant 8 years at $8 million a year with year 1 at 13, year 5 at 10, year 8 at 15. That still only comes up to 78. Unless you're offering a $4 million signing bonus.

We have drafted Baldwin in the 1st round. We brought in Breaston last year. This year we drafted Wiley for a slot receiver. Even though it was a 7th rounder, we picked up Hemmingway. And, IIRC, the Patriot Way let WR's who were big pieces to their Super Bowl winning teams move on. CB's too. Nothing is going to surprise me here.

Sorry, I was using your numbers as a base, extending them out to 8 years and adding a couple mil.

Got distracted in the middle and blew it all to hell.

So, it was 8 years, 82 mil, with 39 guaranteed.
