VARSITY
V2.0 - ***Official 2014 Training Camp/Preseason Mega-thread***

Version 2.0

Post all of the Training Camp/Pre-season updates, relevant tweets, and general thoughts in this mega-thread.

If something happens to be particularly newsworthy, feel free to start a thread and discuss it there. Don't be a dickbag and "Q" up their thread, unless some idiot posts something like 5 days late.

WHEN POSTING TWEETS - When posting Tweets, instead of just copying the text, you can actually embed the tweet by clicking "...More" (right next to the timestamp of the tweet)-> "Embed Tweet" -> Copy the embed code, then paste that into your CP post. It will make the thread look a lot cleaner and we won't have to keep clicking away from the website to see the content. Thanks in advance.

I hope the entire interior of our Oline gets switched up.

looks like we have several guys with the natural power to block without needing help all the time

I rewatched over the weekend, and actually Fisher did a pretty good job. It was so strange on the sack... he held his ground really well on the initial rush, and then somehow just got THROWN to the ground. As if he was more than powerful enough front to back but side to side was a rag doll.

He did come back and have really solid blocking on the next series, though. I'd like to see the guy not give up a single sack for the rest of the preseason, and I'll call this one a fluke. But the clock is absolutely ticking on him.

Chiefs Training Camp Report, 8/11/2014
Aug 11, 2014 -- 12:52pm

By @TJCarpenterWHB

NOTES:

- Sean Smith had high highs and low lows today in practice. He got a couple INTs and then was flat out dominated off the ball a couple times by Donnie Avery

- Ron Parker and Sean Smith were put in with the first team defense on a number of 11 on 11 drills today

- Chase Daniel continues to struggle at camp throwing interceptions, but that is not unlike his performance from TC last year.

- Frank Zombo may be the odd man out in LB corps, Dezman Moses injury may change that, but as it stands right now, Outside Linebacker group consists of Hali, Houson - Ford, Martin - and then if Zombo were to make the team, he would be the 5th OLB on the 53.

- Albert Wilson continues to play well, I still believe Frankie Hammond will make the team over Wilson, but camp is long and right now Wilson looks like the more productive of the two. Kyle Williams also continues with strong performances at camp.

- Albert Wilson also may prove to be a better WR option next season than DeAnthony Thomas, who has smaller hands and less weight on his frame.

- DAT is clearly the fastest football player in pads they have at camp. I asked Adam Teicher about how Thomas compares to Dante Hall, who has the same height and about 10-pounds heavier. Teicher said Hall was a stockier player than Thomas, but wasn't nearly as fast as DAT is. Whether he plays on offense much remains to be seen, but I think he'll be a gamer on special teams.

- DAT also worked on kickoff drills today as the catch man on several "Music City Miracle" drills. They did a shorter version of the play as well that involved Knile Davis as the catch man.

Yea, i watched it a couple of times and it appears that Allen got pushed back into Fishers legs as he was blocking undercutting him enough that he went down.

Fisher still should have been stronger but it wasn't as bad at it looked.

Allen still seems to have issues. As i said in another thread, i hope our entire Oline interior gets reworked. Some of our backups looked good. Maybe Allen would be better at OT. Dunno.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- A daily review of the hot topics coming out of Kansas City Chiefs training camp at Missouri Western State University:
•The Chiefs continued to get a long look at young defensive lineman Jaye Howard, who has been starting in place of the injured Mike DeVito, who has a broken hand. Howard received the second-most snaps of any Chiefs defensive player in the preseason opener against Cincinnati, and from all appearances Howard will play a lot in Sunday night's game against the Panthers in Charlotte. They kept Howard on their active roster all season last year after claiming him off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks, and even though he played in just three games they obviously they saw plenty of talent to work with. They may be seeing the payoff. Howard had a sack and was second on the Chiefs in tackles against the Bengals.
•Developmental quarterback Tyler Bray continued to flash the talent that makes him an intriguing prospect to the Chiefs. He has the best arm among the four quarterbacks in camp and he showed it off on a pair of back-to-back plays. He threw a deep ball that was well-placed between defenders that A.J. Jenkins couldn't quite catch up with. Bray then threw a dart for a big gain to Frankie Hammond Jr.
•For veteran help at safety, the Chiefs turned to Jonathon Amaya, who participated in practice on Monday after taking the roster spot of the suddenly retired Steve Gregory. Amaya played in 38 games over three seasons with the Saints and Dolphins. After Gregory left camp, the Chiefs had precious little NFL experience at safety behind the starters, Eric Berry and Husain Abdullah. Amaya could still conceivably make the regular-season roster, but that could depend more on how young safeties like Daniel Sorensen and Malcolm Bronson fare the rest of training camp and the preseason.
•Another practice session came and went with rookie Cairo Santos doing all the kicking. Incumbent Ryan Succop has a sore groin and hasn't kicked since the Cincinnati game. The Chiefs haven't gone with a rookie kicker to begin a season since 2009, when Succop entered the league. But that possibility is looking more and more likely.
•The Chiefs practice again on Tuesday at 9:15 ET/8:15 a.m. CT.

The surprise of Zach Fulton has really, really, really helped to turn this OL debacle around. If we can seriously get an upgrade at RG out of a rookie sixth rounder - and by all accounts, that's what happened - then it goes a long way to securing depth.

If you add The Ballad of Ricky Henry to that mix at LG, then suddenly the options at OL depth look much better.

Fulton,Rinshaw,Henry,Kush

I hope the interior of our Oline is much stronger this year. Technique is great but the is something to be said for having power inside.
