Just had Q39

Might be the most overrated BBQ joint in the city. Overpriced as hell. 1 appetizer, 4 beers, 4 entrees . . . $130. Sheesh.

Sauce was way too sweet. Joe's KC has a sweet sauce, but this is on a whole different level of sweet. The meat was good, but it's not BETTER than other meat in the city.

I mean, it's not BAD, but I don't understand the hype at all.

EDIT: Forgot to add that their french fries were bland as hell. Most fast food places have better fries. Although, I did like their slightly spicy ketchup. Fries still absolutely pale in comparison to Joe's, though.

Surprisingly, this is probably the closest to being somewhat accurate. As others said, though, the diverse conceptualizations of "hipster" evidenced in this thread show why the term is now meaningless.

BBQ Shop (pork sandwich on Texas toast; BBQ spaghetti)
Central BBQ (ribs, BBQ nachos)
Elwood's Shack (brisket, tacos)

On and on.
Corky's is fantastic. Very different than KC style BBQ but really great stuff.

Rendezvous is overrated, but it's good food and worth going at least once for the experience and atmosphere.

The apple BBQ sauce at Corky's is terrific. Agree on Rendezvous being overrated, but their BBQ nachos with the rub on top are on point. And yeah, it is cool that all the servers there have been there for like 30 years.

It hasn't lost its meaning where I live.

If I head to Los Feliz/Silverlake clubs, I know what to expect.

I normally can't muster a **** for what type of people hangout where, but I did go to a place a few weeks ago that has a reputation for being a heavy metal type establishment. I get there and they are piping in some epic thrash at levels that made conversation impossible. **** yeah, right? No, it was full of Chad and Chastity's, like on dates and shit. One of the chicks I was with was like Oh Hell Yeah and headbanged her way up to the bar and we got the stink eye like what are these hessers doing here. I don't know if that's hipster or poser or what, but I was a tad heartbroken. Hoping it was just an off night because the staff was cool.

I can only imagine. My favorite hipster graphic, which I've posted here repeatedly.

I went to Interstate BBQ on my way back from Alabama, I thought it was every bit as good as KC BBQ.

When I am consistently having to defend (OK) Joe's to people who claim Q39 is the best in KC, it has to be pretty good.

VARSITY
I had one of those "no lunch" kinda days yesterday, so on the way home I stopped at Rosedale BBQ for a turkey dinner with fries, beans and slaw. And Stewart's Orange Soda.

Bliss.

If you don't mind a styrofoam plate, Rosedale is a great bargain. All three sides were perfectly done. And their sauce is fantastic on poultry.

I went home full and happy. That's a good thing.

Muddy Spuds are baked potatoes that have been chopped with ranch dressing, chopped onions and grated cheddar cheese added and then they are baked again. It is the favorite side of the locals who frequent Dixie Bones

I guess I'll just roll with this now being a thread about hipsters...

Ironically, I think most of those clubs you mention are filled with people who want to be hipsters, or at least want to copy their tastes. The key to a hipster, IMO, is seeking out undiscovered art, music, and fashion and embracing it with a sense of superiority over the uninitiated. But, the necessary next step is when that piece of art, music, or fashion become mainstream, the hipster must move on to something newer and more obscure so the superiority can be maintained. I've known some true hipsters and their life seems exhausting.
