How about Jimmy Clausen? (A fan favorite here at Chiefs Planet.) You do realize that since Dorsey has been GM, they've signed and drafted a quarterback every single season/off season? They've tried plenty. Brought in Smith. Brought in Daniel. Brought in Foles. Bray - signed as a rookie free agent. Murray - drafted as a rookie. Hogan - drafted as a rookie. I'm really sorry that Alex Smith, who's been one of the most successful QB's in the league since joining the Chiefs has led the team that you might root for to three consecutive winning seasons, two playoff appearances and a playoff win. Must be a real bummer for you every Sunday to root for a winning team. Must really stick in your craw as you are one of the piss and moan malcontents that keep rehashing the same mantra over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ad nauseum with little to say other than crying about "why can't we ever draft our own Hall of Fame Super Bowl winning QB?! (Because, you know, all the rest of the teams have three of them on their rosters. Who do you like in the upcoming draft at the position? Who do you think that they should draft? Who best fits Dorsey's parameters and Reid's offensive scheme that will be available in the 2017 Draft? Are you going to send letters to Dorsey advocating that they select your boy? Are you going to call the scout team and tell them to really start looking at your boy? What are you going to do that's proactive in helping the team select your future Hall of Fame, multiple Super Bowl winning QBOTF? Or are you just going to sit around and piss and moan that they aren't doing enough to meet your expectations? |

I doubt it was ever even a consideration back when they put the deal together. It's an insurance policy on Smith gettng a serious injury where he wouldn't be able to play next season or for good. Negotiate a cheaper extension in the off-season or let him walk and draft someone.

[QUOTE=DaneMcCloud;12536912]33 teams passed on Carr. The Chiefs had a QB and no 2nd round pick. Wilson lasted until the 3rd round because of his height.
You and the other butt****s act like choosing a QB is an exact science. There haven't been "countless" QB's the Chiefs have passed over that became HOFer's, which is basically what you and all the other morons that dissatisfied with Alex Smith, want. Taking Sanchez or Clausen or Weeden or any number of draft choices would have meant the loss of a good player, such as Dee Ford or Eric Fisher or Mitch Morse. Or would you rather have Garrett Grayson (cut), Brett Hundley or Sean Mannion over Marcus Peters or Morse or Conley or Steven Nelson? THINK before you type, jackass.[/QUOTE We haven't drafted a QB worth a shit ever and people on here think there were never any available. That is rediculus. Not saying there will be a good one this year we could get but KC a has long history of not trying. We get a cast off and hand them the job and ignore the position by never spending a high pick on a possible long term answer. It's probably the biggest reason we have not won shit. We don't have a home grown stud QB that can be relied on to win.

You start investing better draft currency into a replacement because Alex is in his mid 30's and he's quickly going to fall off the cliff when he physically slips, which can happen any day. Nick Foles isn't the guy you want and a maybe concussion isn't why you make serious contingency plans. |

If Alex Smith plays next year, you extend Foles and you overpay him. Regardless of whether Alex plays next year, the Chiefs must draft a qb in the first or second round. Even trade up if need be. Not even a question on either front.
If Alex gets hurt in a playoff hunt I'm not handing the keys to a freshman mid-season. The minute Alex hangs it up, I would rather give a young guy a shot than retread with Foles. So whether we extend Foles or not has everything to do with what Alex Smith wants to do with his life. |
